A few weeks ago, I shared a post about the OT Compact—and I was drawn in by the layered response. It felt more expansive than anything I’ve posted before. It told me there’s a conversation out there—quiet, thoughtful, and possibly ready to grow.

That response led me to start something new: The Restorative Thread—a newsletter exploring the future of occupational therapy, leadership, and reflection.

Issue #1 is now live: “From the Compact to the Conversation”

In this opening piece, I reflect on how small actions—like a share or a thoughtful tag—can become turning points. And how asking better questions, especially around Medicaid and access, may lead us to something deeper: a larger truth, and a renewed understanding of why we choose to care for those less able to care for themselves.

I hope you’ll stay engaged.

If you’re reading this, you’re already part of the conversation that began with a simple post about the OT Compact. The response to that post wasn’t just larger than usual—it was more layered.

I’m Running for NHOTA President
My name is Christopher Dunstan, and I’m honored to be running for President of the New Hampshire Occupational Therapy Association.
I’m an occupational therapist, business owner, and advocate with a deep belief in our profession’s ability to illuminate possibility. I continue to carry a caseload because I believe there’s no substitute for being present in the work. It’s where truth lives—between direct therapy and the systems that support it.
Over the past several years, I’ve worked across New Hampshire to strengthen school-based services, ensure compliance and clarity around Medicaid, and advocate for legislation that expands access and autonomy for OTs. I helped draft the 2023 update to our state practice act (HB 109), which removed the physician order requirement for OT services—a meaningful step forward for our field.

But as you know, our work is far from done. Some may argue the hardest work is just on the horizon.

I’m running because I believe in the future of this profession in New Hampshire - and I still believe we have an opportunity to shape with courage, care, and shared purpose.

No Walls Between Us - Only Pathways Forward

If this message resonates with you, I’d be grateful if you’d like, share, or comment to help spread the word. There is no better time to strengthen our conversation—continue NHOTA's momentum—move forward with purpose.

Advocated today in Concord to support edits to a rule that guide funding to disabled children. My intention was to convey this message. "A just society removes obstacles, not people. Disability doesn’t define, barriers do." If you have the courage and empathy to see the child and not the disability, please look for the opportunity this week to make a connection with any person who may be defined by barriers, and not what they have to offer.

99% of our evaluations rely on this tool. So when a new edition dropped, did we hesitate? No we did not. We don't have that luxury. We are fully engaged with identifying children who are not succeeding and trying to help the family and district understand why.
