True or False? Antibiotics can treat viruses.
Answer: False! Antibiotics fight bacteria, not viruses. Common viral illnesses like colds, flu and most sore throats won’t improve with antibiotics. Using them unnecessarily can lead to antibiotic resistance, making future infections harder to treat.

When you’re sick, talk to your primary care provider or visit our urgent care to discuss the best treatment for your symptoms.

Andrea Parkinson, RN, was named our quarterly Daisy Award honoree!

Andrea, a nurse in our postpartum unit, was nominated by the Osterhout family for exceptional care. After the birth of their daughter, the mom experienced internal bleeding that required surgery. After a few attempts at surgical intervention to stop the bleeding, it was determined that Mom required a hysterectomy. Her wife, alone with their newborn, spent hours waiting and wondering about her.

Andrea was their postpartum nurse and immediately stepped in to lend support to the family. She closely monitored the health of their newborn, supported the family during long waiting periods between surgeries and offered meals and showers.

The nomination included, "Every time there was a concern, Andrea heard me. She advocated for my family and me at every turn, every problem, every day that we were there. My wife and I both agree that it felt like our baby was being cared for by a family member. She did everything she could to make sure my wife had everything she needed to heal. She cared for my wife like she was her own daughter."

Our Story

Portneuf Health Partners are improving lives and transforming medicine locally and around the region. In our 109 year history we have grown from a single hospital location to an advanced network of care. While our medical center has a strong focus on heart, cancer, neurology, orthopedics and women’s care, collectively, we continue to provide quality emergency care, imaging, primary and specialty care along with a wide range of health and wellness education opportunities. Around here, we take care of our own. We look out for our families and help our neighbors. So when we see way to improve healthcare, we are right on it. Because we deserve the best care available. Today, Portneuf Health Partners includes the joint venture between Portneuf Health Trust, Ardent Health Services and a robust network of providers including Portneuf Medical Center, Portneuf Quality Alliance, Portneuf Sports Medicine Institute and numerous physician practices. Together, we’re on a mission for better health, working together to deliver a higher level of care and a healthier community for us all.
