This National Handwashing Awareness Week (Dec 1-7), Skyline Surgery Center reminds you that proper hand hygiene is one of the simplest, most effective ways to prevent infections and ensure patient safety.

Whether you're at home, at work, or in a healthcare setting, washing your hands thoroughly is a critical step in reducing the spread of harmful germs.

Here are some essential tips for effective handwashing:

1. Wash for at least 20 seconds – Lather up with soap and water, scrubbing every part of your hands, including the backs, between your fingers, and under your nails.

2. Use hand sanitizer when soap and water aren’t available – Choose one that contains at least 60% alcohol.

3. Avoid touching your face – Germs can easily enter through the eyes, nose, and mouth.

4. Clean before and after – Wash your hands before eating, after using the restroom, and anytime you come into contact with potentially contaminated surfaces.
