Saturday we had the honor of participating in the NAMI Walk in Pocatello for Mental Health Awareness Month. 💚

We want to thank NAMI for allowing Nason House of Hope to walk alongside so many incredible advocates, supporters, and community members. Together, NAMI Pocatello raised an amazing $10,828.57, and Nason House of Hope was proud to contribute $155 toward that total. Thank you to everyone who organized the event, walked with us, showed up, donated, and continues to advocate for mental health awareness in our community.

Mental health affects millions every year, including our youth. Nearly 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. experiences mental illness annually, and 1 in 6 youth experience a mental health condition each year.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to remind everyone that you are not alone, your story matters, and there is always hope. 💚

Why do we wear Denim for Denim Day?

On Denim Day, we wear jeans to challenge victim-blaming and stand in solidarity with survivors of sexual assault.

This movement began after a landmark 1998 case in Italy, where a court overturned a r**e conviction because the survivor was wearing tight jeans. The ruling implied that “she must have consented” which was a devastating example of victim-blaming. In protest, the Italian Parliament organized Denim Day, encouraging people to wear jeans as a statement that clothing is never consent.

Today, wearing denim is a symbol of:

Support for survivors of sexual assault 🤍

Raising awareness that myths about sexual violence must end 🚫

Encouraging conversations about consent and respect 🙌

How you can take action:

Wear your denim proudly and post a photo to show support

Educate others about victim-blaming and consent

Support local and national resources that help survivors.

Together, every jean, every conversation, and every action sends a message: we believe survivors, and sexual assault is never the victim’s fault.

Drop your photos in the comments of your denim! 💙

Join us for Denim Day tomorrow in support of the victims of sexual assault. Stay tuned for our post tomorrow! 💙

At Nason House of Hope, we are committed to supporting youth through mental health challenges and substance use struggles, and protecting them from abuse is a critical part of that mission.

Did you know?
• 1 in 7 children in the U.S. experience child abuse or neglect each year.
• Child abuse can have lifelong impacts on mental health, increasing the risk of depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders.
• Early intervention and supportive environments can drastically improve outcomes for children who have experienced trauma.

How you can help:
• Learn the signs of abuse: unexplained injuries, sudden behavioral changes, or withdrawal from friends and activities.
• Support youth-serving organizations like Nason House of Hope that provide safe spaces and mental health support.
• Speak up: If you suspect abuse, report it to your local child protection agency.

Together, we can break the cycle of abuse and give every child the chance to grow up safe, supported, and hopeful. 💙

📞 If you or someone you know needs help, contact your local child protective services or call the National Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-422-4453.

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (TDVAM) 🧡

Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month is a time to raise awareness about relationship abuse among young people, educate our communities, and support teens in building healthy, respectful connections.

What is teen dating violence?:
Teen dating violence includes physical, emotional, verbal, sexual, or digital abuse within a teenage relationship. It can show up as controlling behaviors, insults, monitoring through phones or social media, threats, or physical harm. It affects teens of all backgrounds.

📊 Idaho Stats You Should Know:
• Nearly 16% of Idaho youth surveyed reported experiencing physical or sexual violence. Higher than national averages for some forms of dating and sexual violence.
• In Idaho, female students report significantly higher rates of sexual dating violence than male students.
• Some Idaho teens report being slapped, pushed, or hit by a partner at rates similar to broader national findings.

These statistics reflect reported experiences and the real rates are likely higher, because many teens don’t feel safe reporting abuse.

Why it matters:
Teen dating violence can have lasting effects — including impacts on mental health, school performance, self-esteem, and future relationships. Awareness and early education are key to prevention.

🧡At NHOH, we believe in supporting young people and their loved ones with education, resources, and compassion. By talking openly about healthy versus unhealthy relationships, we help teens make safer choices and support peers who might be struggling.

📌 Signs of healthy relationships:
✔ Mutual respect and trust
✔ Open communication
✔ Personal boundaries are honored

📌 Signs of unhealthy behavior:
⚠ Excessive texting or checking up constantly
⚠ Threats, insults, or pressure
⚠ Isolation from friends or family

You are not alone. If you or someone you know is experiencing dating violence or if you’re just confused about what’s “normal” , help is available.

📞 National Teen Dating Violence Hotline:
Call/text 866-331-9474
Trained advocates can support you 24/7.

Together, through awareness, education, and community support, we can help teens build healthy relationships and break cycles of abuse. 🧡
