Today the question of mounjaro for weight loss was brought up. Patient heard it was for weight loss. Once again, the FDA has not approved mounjaro for weight loss. It has went through the proper studies and the data has been presented to the FDA. It will take awhile to get the process complete. In the meantime please remember that no FDA compounding facilities can compound a medication without FDA clearance. Anyone can go to the FDA website and see what compounding facilities are FDA approved. If you are injecting a substance in your body you should no what you are getting and where! Several states have shut down unauthorized manufactures of semaglutide and mounjaro for making unsafe products. Below is from Epocrates the app our provider uses for prescribing.

Some reason questions about our weight loss program:

How can we afford to offer injections reasonably? We use a 503b compounding facility (only 503b compounding facility are allowed to make semaglutide and no it does have ”salts” in it). Information on the news recently was referring to compounding facility that are not 503b facility and are illegal to compound semaglutide.

Does your semaglutide take away from diabetics? No

Does insurance cover semaglutide treatment? Insurance does not pay for semaglutide treatment, but insurance does pay for some conditions that lead to obesity.

Do you allow a patient to use their insurance to pay for treatment in your facility? It varies whether the insurance will pay, but we do have some patients who’s insurance have paid!

Do you ever use mounjaro for weight loss in your clinic? No it is not FDA approved for weight loss
