Autism is isolating and we are asking the community to make more room for us.

I am challenging you to WONDER WHY things are so different for us.

If a person with disabilities walked into your church tomorrow to learn about our Father-

Would you be able to accomadate that person? Would you be able to light the way?
Did they feel welcome?

There are no disabled souls.
My own belief is that people with disabilities are angels and are His oldest souls put here to teach us all something.

April 17 2018

We were only a diagnosis away from a totally different life...
But it turned out to be life defining, actually.

For newly diagnosed families its ok to grieve. Grieve it all but don't stay there. Keep pushing.

For the veteran parents- you paved the way.

Im thankful for both of these experiences ๐Ÿ™ โœจ๏ธ

Emma was the same little girl before and after the "official". The only thing that changed was that I didn't need to fight her natural instincts as a person with autism.

Shes so amazing ๐Ÿ˜

Having to describe the experience of raising a child with a disability - to help people who have not shared that unique experience to understand it, to imagine how it would feel.
It's like this โžก๏ธ

Welcome to Holland ๐ŸŒท
Emily Perl Kingsley
ยฉ1987

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡นWhen you're going to have a baby, it's like planning a fabulous vacation trip - to Italy. You buy a bunch of guide books and make your wonderful plans. The Coliseum. The Michelangelo David. The gondolas in Venice. You may learn some handy phrases in Italian. It's all very exciting.

โœˆ๏ธAfter months of eager anticipation, the day finally arrives. You pack your bags and off you go. Several hours later, the plane lands. The flight attendant comes in and says, "Welcome to Holland."

"Holland?!?" you say. "What do you mean Holland?? I signed up for Italy! I'm supposed to be in Italy. All my life I've dreamed of going to Italy." ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ

But there's been a change in the flight plan. They've landed in Holland and there you must stay.๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ญ

The important thing is that they haven't taken you to a horrible, disgusting, filthy place, full of pestilence, famine and disease. It's just a different place. ๐Ÿ™

So you must go out and buy new guide books. And you must learn a whole new language. And you will meet a whole new group of people you would never have met. ๐Ÿ“š

๐ŸŒท It's just a different place. It's slower-paced than Italy, less flashy than Italy. But after you've been there for a while and you catch your breath, you look around.... and you begin to notice that Holland has windmills....and Holland has tulips. Holland even has Rembrandts.

๐Ÿ’ผ But everyone you know is busy coming and going from Italy... and they're all bragging about what a wonderful time they had there. And for the rest of your life, you will say "Yes, that's where I was supposed to go. That's what I had planned." ๐Ÿฅน

And the pain of that will never, ever, ever, ever go away... because the loss of that dream is a very very significant loss. ๐Ÿค

But... if you spend your life mourning the fact that you didn't get to Italy, you may never be free to enjoy the very special, the very lovely things ... about Holland ๐Ÿ’™

(Please behave this time)

If your child requires a 1:1 and there are any extracurricular activities including a varsity game-

The school must provide that child with the same non-discriminational supports as identified in ETR/IEP.

Aids and teachers shouldn't be going 'unpaid' for their students to feel apart of the community. ( what a mind f* that is too)

Budget isn't the staffs problem- 25 kids +parents is enough ๐Ÿ˜ซ

Anyway, if no one employed by the school picks up the opportunity for extra cash โžก๏ธ
the school then posts with a 3rd party that will do the interviews, basic training and background check.

School pays because students (and your child) deserve autonomy from their parents like all typical students. ๐Ÿ€

Don't you dare let their budget or contract issues be your problem- knock that off rn! ๐Ÿ‘Š
Furthermore,
Note that box below that gives the parents or admins a *reason* if not. (Better be a darn good one too!)

Safety First for First Responders โš ๏ธ

Emma may not recognize danger.
Or realize she's hurt.
She'll hide and want you to seek.
She'll run and want you to chase.
She won't be able to tell you much.
Just keep her safe.

Speak loud, clear and with your hands.
Say "HELP," pat your chest and hold out your hand.
