How to pay for it. That’s probably one of your biggest worries if you’re considering limb lengthening. Unfortunately, not everyone has success getting coverage, especially if the insurance company argues that the procedure is cosmetic. If that happens, you’re not entirely out of options.

The most important thing is to equip yourself with knowledge: talk openly with your doctor about the medical necessity angle, gather solid evidence of your functional needs, and engage proactively with your insurance company (or companies, if you have more than one).

“Traveling across the world for limb lengthening surgery is so much cheaper!”
But have you considered the long-term consequences?

Having limb lengthening surgery across the globe means no in-person follow ups, and no quick trips if something starts to feel off.

Choosing a center like ours offers invaluable peace of mind. Immediate in-person follow-ups are standard, and we are right by your side for quick assistance with any potential post-op issues. That level of dedicated, accessible care is truly priceless.

How’s your posture right now? (don’t lie!)

Luckily, there are a few quick exercises you can do that make for perfect posture.

Yes, there is pain associated with limb lengthening. A surgeon is cutting bone and gradually stretching it so new bone tissue can grow in the gap.

But it’s not forever. Many patients find that once they’ve fully recovered, the discomfort they felt becomes a footnote in their memory, overshadowed by the benefits – a boost in confidence, improved balance, or relief from a previous limb-length discrepancy.

If you’re curious about limb lengthening but worried about the pain, our Limb Lengthening Institute is here to help! Our dedicated team will walk you through the entire process, discussing realistic pain expectations and strategies to keep you as comfortable as possible.

When surgery is indicated, Dr. Miller will use wide-awake, local anesthesia, and no tourniquet (WALANT) technique, whenever possible. WALANT is a minimally invasive approach that allows patients to undergo various smaller procedures in a safe and comfortable setting, avoiding the risks and downtime associated with general anesthesia or sedation.

Dr. Miller performs WALANT surgery for a range of common hand and wrist conditions. This minimally invasive technique can be used for patients with: carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, certain tendon injuries, dupuytren’s contracture, ganglion cysts, minor fractures, and more!

Speaking of warming up… do you? You should!

Once you’ve done a quick warm-up, stretch anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes, depending on how strenuous the exercise will be. Be sure to stretch multiple areas of the body – it’s an interconnected system.
