Did you know that January is cervical cancer awareness month???

Well now you do! I recommend my patients begin getting screened at age 21, so if you’re reading this and you were alive when Carrie Underwood dropped “Before He Cheats”, go get screened!

From there, the routine should be a pap-smear screening every 3 years until age 30. After that, depending on your various risk factors and medical history, I suggest getting a screening every 3-5 years until you get to your late 60s/early 70s.

With proper screening and public health infrastructure, we can eradicate cervical cancer. In fact, in 2021, Australia saw ZERO new cases of cervical cancer due to their various targeted investments in early detection and prevention.

Happy Holidays Everyone! I am so thankful for the love and joy I’ve gotten to be a part of this holiday season.

Looking forward to the new year, my resolution is to try to average 10,000 steps! It is a lofty goal, but hopefully it will motivate me to get out and enjoy the beautiful SoCal weather whenever I can!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

As I reflect on all I’m thankful for this year, I find myself especially thankful for family, both biological and chosen. These people are what grounds me, and what pushes me everyday to be better than the day before.

I am also thankful for my practice, and the folks who make my work so fulfilling. Thank you for allowing me to live out my dreams, and I can’t wait to for what’s yet to come!

The looming cutbacks on SNAP benefits is a women’s health issue.

Women, especially women of color and low income women, are disproportionately represented among SNAP beneficiaries (Source: National Women’s Law Center). A lack of access to nutritional foods can and will have cascading effects on health outcomes for everyone, and this will be especially pronounced among the millions of women who rely on the program.
