Helping families one day at a time

The day in the life of the Parent Train starts around 11am. We stay late for our families, so getting here any earlier and we’d never sleep! Once the office opens, its a whirlwind of messages and emails from current clients, people seeking information and handling all the insurance paperwork. That’s before lunchtime even. Behind the scenes, we have insurance companies to call, clients to check in with, school guidance counselors to connect with, and so much more happening. Dr. Salvanto is usually creating social media or finding ways to share our services with those in need. As she is involved in many advocacy cases, the mornings and early afternoons are used for school meetings and correspondence. There are also a few early appointments for college aged clients and some available parents.

Once our late lunchtime, of approximately 1:30pm is over it is time for pulling charts and getting the rooms ready for use. We make sure everyone has the basic tools on hand and the doors start revolving about 3:15pm. It’s pretty much straight through from then until 8pm or later that we see families. It may be social skills groups in one area, tutoring in the back and several client sessions all taking place at the same time. We’ve even had sessions in the waiting room, cars, parking lot when someone is really struggling.

Once the day slows back down, charts are filed, insurances are billed and we wrap up emails and phone calls. The pillows get put back neatly on couches, lights turned off, and the thermostat adjusted. It’s only for a few hours, until it all begins again.....
