Hello friends,
I am pleased to announce the opening of our new downtown Ponchatoula Urology office – the only urology facility in town! The office is located at 165 W Oak Street, in space we share with Southern Podiatry and Dr. David Allen. John Walker, William Gilbreath, Howard Raphael, and Mark Tilyou in an office on 5th Street, our new office is located just across the tracks in that charming
old wood frame structure that has served as a physician’s office for decades. My specialty is office-based urology. Focusing on the office allows me more time to share with patients in a truly relaxed office atmosphere, without the hospital emergency delays so common to hospital-based urology practices. We see men and women of most every urological need – PSA issues, prostate enlargement (BPH), prostate infection (prostatitis), urological cancers (prostate, bladder, kidney), female incontinence, cystitis, urinary tract infections (UTI), erectile dysfunction (other sexual dysfunction), Peyronies (curvature), hypogonadism (low testosterone), renal cysts, renal masses, abnormal bleeding (hematuria, hematospermia), infertility, and much more. If you know a patient in need, we are now accepting new patients with no physician referral necessary. Helena dairy farm country, attended Natalbany Christian and Oak Forest, and studied biology at SLU where my father taught in the math department. I played rugby at SLU and led the NCAA riflery team at Centenary College, before graduating from LSU Medical School with an aim to train in urology. I did six years of postdoctoral urology work after medical school, being inducted into the AOA national medical honor society while training at Baylor|Texas A&M, the Texas VA system, and Boston Children’s|Harvard Medical School. Upon completing my urology training, I worked as a member of the Urology Department at Ochsner Clinic before establishing a private urology practice, initially with North Oaks and later with St. Tammany Parish Hospitals. Early on I worked to introduce area hospitals to major urological cancer reconstructive surgical procedures and state-of-the-art female urinary incontinence surgery. I am certified by two urology specialty boards and now work in association with other surgical urologists as well as hospital-based urologists. My practice is affiliated with Northshore Physicians Network and accepts most commercial insurance. Direct pay patients are also very welcome, of course. We see lots of standard Medicare patients, including those with no supplemental insurance. We also accept essentially all Medicare advantage plans – including Blue Cross, Peoples Health, Humana, Aetna, United Healthcare, WellCare, and others. Whether fully insured, partially insured, or uninsured, we want to help anyone in need and can work with most any insurance situation. I am happy to make myself available to see patients in need of my special attention and experience. Our Ponchatoula books are open for new patient booking with as little as one day notice. Scheduling is a phone call away at (985) 345-5500, but you may also book appointments online at https://www.ponchatoulaurology.com/appointments. My home is now in Ponchatoula and of course I’m very happy to have the new office open just down the street. I look forward to seeing old friends, meeting new patients, and making many new friends here in town and all around the area! Stephen Watson, MD
