“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”~Hippocrates
Now more than ever it is the time to focus on supporting our bodies with nutrient dense food!
We really need to be mindful about what we are feeding our bodies....this means binging on sugar, alcohol and television is not ideal. All of these things will lower your immune system and we are looking to boost it!
High quality grass fed meat is rich in amino acids that support detoxification and respiratory health....bone broth is a ideal for this!
Getting in foods that contain D,C,A and zinc are crucial for your immune system. You can find those in foods like, grassfed butter and meat, pasture raised egg yolks, wild caught fatty fish, oysters, sardines, liver and other organ meats, cod-liver oil, nuts and seeds, legumes, asparagus, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, avacados, citrus fruits and peppers.( this isn't the complete list but a start)
Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated to keep everything functioning but be careful to avoid sugary juices....best to drink your water and eat your fruit. Herbal teas are a great option! Ginger tea is wonderful for digestion and tulsi tea is good for its calming effects if your feeling anxious.
Aim for some form of daily movement that makes you sweat and keeps your lymph flowing. HIIT, yoga, strength training, pilates and walking are all good choices. Get outside in the sun if possible too.
Get 7-9 hours of sleep every night. Your body needs adequate sleep to repair itself.
Remember to keep a healthy state of mind. You can do this with daily gratitude practices, deep breathing or meditation techniques.
Choose designated times to look at social media or media in general.....scrolling all day or watching the news isn't healthy and can contribute to feeling anxious or overwhelmed. Try to focus on the things you have control over. Maybe you can do some unfinished projects, get a jump on spring cleaning, read a book you have been wanting to read and spend quality time with your family.
And of course practice good hygiene!
I hope this helps, these are things that we are doing in our home. Remember being stressed, drinking alcohol, eating poor quality food and missing out on sleep all contribute to poor health.
