Join us TODAY! at 12 PM Eastern Time on the Dyslexia Success Stories! podcast for a special RECAP of one of our most inspiring episodes featuring special guest Kim Molloy. When Kim’s son Jacob was in 4th grade, he struggled tremendously with spelling tests and found it nearly impossible to express himself through writing. Jacob’s school was unable to address his reading difficulties with an effective intervention. Rather, his school put text-to-speech software on his computer, which his parents knew was not a long-term solution. His parents thought poor phonics skills caused his reading difficulties. However, when Kim investigated the NOW! Programs® she was surprised to learn that popular “print to speech” phonics programs (teaching phonics 1st and sounds 2nd) do not build the essential phonological awareness or phonological working memory skills that 1st develop with speech skills and then are transferred to decoding, phonics, reading and spelling skills - ie “Speech to Print” literacy programs are the far more effective programs for empowering reading, spelling and spoken language skills for children with Dyslexia.
Though initially hesitant in trying another dyslexia program, Jacob soon began making huge strides—not only improving his reading, spelling and academic performance, but he was actually enjoying the writing process too. By the end of 5th grade, Jacob’s academic performance soared, achieving one of the highest grades in his English class! His I-Ready reading score was now in the 98th percentile. Fueled by his newfound competence/strengthened skills, which also empowered his confidence, Jacob transformed a school writing assignment into a published book, Pickles in the Big City: The Very Bad Dare. Now he’s personally pitching his book to be sold by local bookstores. Take a look! His book is available here on Amazon: https://amzn.to/40XNcPS
Hear Kim’s insightful perspective on how evidence-based intervention empowered Jacob’s skills and competence first, and then empowered his confidence, creativity, and finally academic success in reading, spelling and writing too. Learn how the NOW! Foundations for Speech, Language, Reading and Spelling® program’s evidence-based, from randomized controlled trials research, method transformed his language and his literacy skills. Finally, like Kim always knew he had the potential to do, Jacob’s true language and literacy skills potential had been unlocked, allowing him to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
Don’t miss this incredible story of determination, empowerment, and the joy of seeing what you knew was potentially possible to really happen with a literacy program that has been scientifically proven to empower speech, language, literacy, working memory and writing skills too - see www.NOWprograms.com for more information on why the “Speech to Print” approach of this program is far more developmentally appropriate and far more effective for truly empowering Dyslexia and unlocking each students’ full potential.
