Every restoration has a lifespan. That’s the reality of the restorative cycle in dentistry. That’s why we choose minimal or no-preparation veneers whenever possible, to preserve healthy enamel and interrupt the cycle of progressively invasive treatments. More natural tooth structure means more options for the future!

Traditionally, dentists are taught to fully cover existing fillings when placing porcelain veneers, often leading to aggressive tooth reduction. In this case, we used a no-preparation approach, replaced the old interproximal fillings, and ended the veneers on composite rather than removing healthy enamel to encase the restorations. This preserves maximum tooth structure and interrupts the restorative cycle for a healthier, longer-lasting smile.

No preparation porcelain veneers
-Case selection process includes understanding how to treat teeth with existing composite restorations and manage size discrepancies to avoid the look of big teeth.
-Many smiles fit into our case type workflows to allow patients to have access to no preparation veneers.
-Here the central incisors had existing composite restorations. The restorations were replaced with new composite and shaped to receive the new porcelain veneers rather than traditional prepping which would include breaking contacts and encasing the composites within the veneer.
-In addition you can see how the additive design enables me to avoid prepping the other teeth in the smile. Choosing then to only refine a few areas to allow for natural emergence from the gums.

Keeping cases as conservative as possible doing minimal tooth contouring and replacing existing composite restorations to keep the integrity of the tooth intact. Preserving the enamel whenever and wherever it is possible.

Next post we look at the tooth refinements, I call smile equilibrations, we can make to enable the ceramist to create natural shapes and emergence from the gums.

Why choose feldspathic porcelain?
-It gives technicians the ability to change the shades of teeth in much thinner increments. -Feldspathic porcelain can brighten teeth at a thickness of .02 mm per shade compared 2.0 mm per shade with lithium disilicate ceramics.
