We're all for taking steps to protect privacy, but if you're thinking about posting (or re-posting) a privacy declaration on Facebook, please think twice. This declaration is a hoax, just as it was a couple of years ago.

Thinking they are preventing theft of their photos and information, Facebook users are circulating a fake statement of copyright protection

Identity theft continues to be a problem for millions of Americans. Do you know what to do if your identity is stolen?

Criminals stole personal information from tens of millions of Americans in data breaches this past year. Of those affected, one in three may become victims of identity theft.

Do you give stores your ZIP code when they ask? Don't.

(AP Photo/Julie Jacobson) Why do merchants sometimes ask us for our ZIP code when we buy something? I recently visited the Mob Museum in Las Vegas, an interesting addition to Sin City’s attractions. I paid my admission with a credit card, prompting the museum ticket seller to ask me: “What’s your ZI…

There's a rise in medical identity theft - what's behind it?

A decentralized U.S. health system, increasing digitization of records, and demand in the black market are fueling a surge in thefts.

Fascinating article from the New York Times about privacy - We want privacy, but we can't stop sharing on social media. Interesting reasons behind it, actually. Sound like anyone you know?

Scientists were concerned that climate changes would make trees leaf out too early - Turns out, they follow the daylight, not so much the temperature. This is good news - now we just need to stop cutting quite so many of them down!

Ecologists have long worried that as climate change continues to affect the seasons, trees might "leaf out" too early, only to be struck by late-season frosts. Some trees, however, are too clever for such a simple trick, somehow knowing to wait it out despite spurts of warm weather.

This week in our blog, we ask: What's the state of paper recycling in the US? It's actually gone down a bit in recent years (while landfill paper is going up), but not all of the news is bad, especially over the long-term.

Over the past few decades, we've all seen the big push in the US and other countries to recycle our paper waste. Not all paper waste is recyclable, of course, but much of the paper we throw out (in...

Of course it's best to get no junk mail at all, but if you DO get some, turn lemons into lemonade! This artist makes beautiful artwork entirely out of junk mail.

Artist Sandhi Schimmel Gold personifies the old saying: “One man’s trash is another man’s (in this case woman’s) treasure.”

Some positive environmental news: roof tiles that can clean pollutants from the air! Science may just save us (and our breathable air) yet.

UC Riverside researchers say they have demonstrated an inexpensive roof coating that gobbles up smog-forming pollutants and, if widely adopted, could clean tons of air pollution from Southern California each day.

Sad story about an elderly man who spent his limited income on scams that he got in the mail, instead of on things like food. Not all junk mail is a scam, of course, but it's important to remember that "too good to be true" usually is, and that the elderly are particularly vulnerable to tricks like these.

A vulnerable pensioner spent more than £30,000 after falling prey to mail scams. Peter Rose, from Wigston, was subjected to an onslaught of mail scams over eight years offering free...

When did junk mail REALLY start becoming annoying? The truth is, long before any of us was born. Our great-great-grandparents were dealing with it - who else is ready to break the cycle?

Think back for a moment. Do you remember a time when you didn't get junk mail? You may have a faint recollection of an era in which people still wrote letters to each other instead of emails, when ...
