Recently, CARE House President & CEO Blythe Tyler appeared on FOX 2 Detroit to share an important message for our community: if you suspect child abuse or neglect, report it.

Abuse often involves grooming and manipulation by someone a child knows and trusts, which is why many children never disclose what’s happening. Adults must educate themselves on the warning signs—such as sudden behavior changes, withdrawal, anxiety, or age inappropriate behaviors—and take concerns seriously.
You don’t need proof to make a report. Speaking up allows professionals to assess the situation and get help to a child who may be at risk. Knowing the signs and taking action can change—and save—a child’s life.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and prevention starts with each of us.

It starts with having difficult conversations.
At CARE House of Oakland County, we know that knowledge is power. When we have conversations about child abuse and abuse prevention with our kids, friends, colleagues, and family, we create communities in which everyone can help prevent abuse. When we talk about it, we help strengthen protective factors in our families and communities, which are vital to keeping kids safe. When we are open and honest about child abuse, we put shame to rest and bring truth to light.

Join us as we celebrate Child Abuse Prevention Month. Help share resources, information, and tips on how to make our community a safe place for children.

The teenage years can be anyone’s most challenging and confusing time of life. Add learning how to survive abuse on top of social and school pressures, and it creates a situation that most teens simply can’t handle on their own.

That is why CARE House of Oakland County offers the Teen Girl Survivor Group, a seven-week program designed specifically to help 13 to 18 year-old girls, at no cost to them or their families.

To learn more about this program, visit the link in our bio and story.
