Tanglefoot Trail

Tanglefoot Trail Welcome to the Tanglefoot Trail! W.C. Faulkner in 1871. We look forward to seeing you on the trail!

The Tanglefoot Trail located in the Mississippi Hills National Heritage area preserves the abandoned railroad corridor assembled for the Ripley Railroad by Col. With its storied past, the 44.5 mile asphalt trail offers multi-use recreational opportunities as it winds through six communities, forests, fields, pastures, and wetlands in Union, Pontotoc and Chickasaw counties in northeast Mississippi.

Bikers, walkers, joggers, runners and nature enthusiasts enjoy the beauty of the trees, the meadows, the creeks, the flora and the fauna with an occasional stop to learn a bit of history.

TRAIL IMPROVEMENT UPDATE:
Great news- sealing of the entire trailway is complete! The contractor will be going to various spots along the trail to touch up where a little extra attention is needed. We do not anticipate a trail closure during that process, but please be safe while going through any areas they are working.

NEXT UP: Bridge Deck Replacement. We will begin replacing bridge decks after May 18th. Will let you know more detail when available. This will require some trail closures and we'll keep you informed as the process moves forward.

ALSO COMING: In January 2026, Winter Storm Fern hit the Tanglefoot Trail too. We'll soon be chipping and spreading downed trees on the right-of-way as well as cutting high hanging limbs and repair some eroded areas.

Yes, there's a lot of activity and we'll continue to post on Facebook to keep you in the loop. We appreciate your continued patience and support!
