Greetings to all our followers! Meet Carrie Smith, Physical Therapist and owner at The Advanced Alternative and Physical Therapist at Integrated Therapy Services.
Carrie graduated from Missouri State University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry. She also attended graduate school at Missouri State University where she earned a Master of Physical Therapy degree in 2004.
For more than 20 years, Carrie has provided inpatient hospital, skilled nursing facility, assisted living, home health, and outpatient clinic physical therapy services for adult, pediatric, and geriatric populations and has experience with neurological, cardiopulmonary, vestibular/balance, aquatic, injury, and sports rehabilitation.
In addition to being a licensed physical therapist, Carrie is also a 300 hour Registered Yoga Teacher and has been trained using the trademarked Therapeutic Yoga Wall for her clients. She has also obtained certificates as a Corre Barre instructor, Paddlefit instructor, and Juvo Board instructor. Ten years ago, she augmented her physical therapy career by founding The Advanced Alternative where she began incorporating Therapeutic Rehabilitation using principles from yoga and Pilates theory. This created an environment cohesive with expanding her knowledge base regarding fascial manipulation, nervous system regulation, breathwork, somatic healing, trauma informed communication, muscle imbalance injuries in older adults and overuse injuries in young athletes. With that knowledge, Carrie has passed these principles and their benefits on to her clients.
After over a decade in contract physical therapy, Carrie formed The Advanced Alternative, a fee-for-service, mobile PT practice to provide individualized physical therapy, health and wellness services in a private, yet effective environment. This personalized one-on-one treatment model allows for a thorough, undisturbed, and specialized evaluation and treatment which provides an advantage to the client for improved outcomes and increased odds of maintaining their results in improvement of fitness performance, optimal functional movement patterns and overall quality of life.
Carrie can also offer education regarding additional topics including intuitive lifestyle strategies, meditation, nutrition, aromatherapy, mindfulness, as well as physical and mental fitness. This holistic approach is ideal for the client because Carrie is comfortable and experienced in many healthcare settings and can provide services that are effective, flexible, convenient, and consistent. She is very enthusiastic about the continuing education, consultation, administration, and research of health and wellness in all client populations.
In her free time, Carrie enjoys spending quality time with her family and participating in fitness activities with friends. She enjoys adopting a lifestyle that includes yoga, Pilates, standup paddle boarding, fitness training, and spending time outdoors camping, hiking, and kayaking.
Carrie would love to help any and all of you so please don’t hesitate to call, comment or message with questions!
