Finally!!! Some information:
FROM VDOT- As early as April 30, Wythe Creek Road (Route 172), between Commander Shepard Boulevard and Voyager Boulevard in Hampton, will be reduced from two lanes to one lane in each direction to accommodate utility work as part of the Wythe Creek Road Widening project. Additionally, the right turn lane from westbound Commander Shepard Boulevard to northbound Wythe Creek Road will be closed with turns accommodated directly from the main travel lane. The two left turn lanes from eastbound Commander Shepard Boulevard to northbound Wythe Creek Road will be reduced to a single turn lane. All north and southbound lanes on Wythe Creek Road will be temporarily shifted toward the western side of Wythe Creek Road to allow room for crews and heavy equipment to access utilities under the roadway. The temporary lane closures will start as early as 7 a.m., with scheduled completion in early evening. Heavy congestion in the area surrounding NASA Langley Research Center and potentially extending into Poquoson is possible during peak travel periods. All work is weather- and schedule-dependent; therefore, this schedule is subject to change. Access will be maintained to all property and businesses. The 7-Eleven access on Wythe Creek Road will be limited to right turn in and out movements during the closure period. Drivers seeking to enter the 7-Eleven store from Commander Shepard Boulevard must do so from Old Armistead Avenue. As part of ongoing bridge-building work, single-lane closures with traffic under flagger control will continue between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Wythe Creek Road north of Voyager Boulevard in Hampton and Poquoson. Drivers are asked to reduce speed and stay alert while driving through the work zone to ensure the safety of all drivers, crews and equipment working in close proximity to traffic. As crews work to install new water, sanitary sewer and stormwater pipes under the roadway, similar multi-day utility-related activities and single-lane closures between Commander Shepard and Voyager Boulevard are expected to occur through summer.
