One of my favorite videos, clearly showing how relaxing acupuncture can be. Look at how sleepy and relaxed this hen gets. AND this video is from 2016, long before AI.

Emotions teach us

They help us move through this world & grow if we know how to listen.

Strong rising emotions – irritability overwhelmed that really intense phonetic energy that just makes you paralyzed, but also like wanting to lash out – – these are all things that are related to what we call liver Chi rising or liver Jong rising and you want to use the sweet flavor of root vegetables to anchor that energy.

So your best bet is to do things like roasting, young carrots, or whole carrots and tossing in whatever cool sauce you wanna make this is a good time to look up like flavorful Herbie sauces there’s a really good Mediterranean one that uses sumac like dried sumac with a little bit of sesame if anyone can remember the name of this garnish, please put it in the comments below.

You can toss them with like chimichurri sauce or a tahini based herbaceous sauce or a green goddess dressing. Those are all amazing things to put on cooked root vegetables whether they’re steamed pan fried or sautéed to help calm that energy.

And yes, food therapy alone doesn’t always fix it, but it really shockingly helps take the edge off so try this out. You may need to have some root vegetables daily and see how you feel in a week.

And leave a comment with your favorite cooked root vegetable dish because I’m always looking for new recipes.

A few tips for winter.

Definitely wear socks my friend. It’s an underrated benefit to your health. 😘

& test these tips out. We are not meant to push all the time, in everything we do…we need cycles of restoration.

Swap sweat inducing fast vinyasa for slower, pose holding hatha yoga, or restorative, or yin yoga.

Swap HIIT, for slow steady endurance —or hiking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing

Strength training is the number one style of exercise that restores Kidney Qi —the non-cardio version…slow steady reps with increasing weight over time. This causes muscle to tug on bones (the tissue of the Kidney in TCM), and not only causes bone density improvement, but at the same time -causes Kidney Qi growth

*remember in TCM an organ that I write about is a much larger concept than the organ itself

It’s true! And when you think about it, it makes a lot of sense to move/exercise with the energy of the season.
