Death Cafe "A Tea to Die For" is part of an international movement of hosting informal gatherings for the simple purpose of discussing death. Folks come together to share what is on their minds and hearts, without a particular theme or topic other than death.

VHOCC, in conjunction with Studio Bob, will host one of these gatherings Thursday of the month, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Studio Bob, 118 ½ E. Front St., Port Angeles. A discussion will be held at this location every third Thursday of the month.

The group is free and open to all and does not require prior registration.
Two other gatherings are held on a monthly basis: the second Monday of the month in the KSQM-FM Community Room, 609 W. Washington St., No. 17, in Sequim and the fourth Wednesday in VHOCC’s conference room, 829 E. 8th St., both from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Several volunteers do essential work behind the scenes: Al Frank came to us with expertise in software programming, which made him ideal for our donation team.

December and January are busy months, and Al worked relentlessly to complete all reports on time and took on extra duties when another volunteer was unavailable. And he does it all with a smile, regardless of last-minute modifications. We could not do it without Al and we're so grateful to have him on our team.

Lost a loved one and need a little support? VHOCC is sponsoring a five-week in-person grief support group every Monday from March 16 through April 13, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 Blake Ave., in Sequim.

The group offers a place for participants to share with others their feelings and experiences with grief; gain a clearer understanding of the mourning process; and learn coping skills and strategies for dealing with the emotional pain of loss. Confidentiality is essential to foster openness, trust and acceptance.

Attendance is free, but registration is required. Attendees should attend all sessions.

For more information or to register, call 360-452-1511 or email reception@vhocc.org.

Death Matters: To be or not to be: The executor of an estate

The executor of your estate is the person who will settle your financial affairs after you die. Your executor will pay your debts and distribute your assets according to your will.

Your executor will close your accounts to avoid unnecessary fees, protect your identity, and prevent fraud. Before selecting an executor — or agreeing to be someone’s executor — learn more about the position and desirable qualifications.

“What Is Living Compassion?” is scheduled online Wednesday, March 11, from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Questions will be taken in advance of the discussion to facilitate the conversation.
