What? No free lunch?
Erythritol (an artificial sweetener) has been linked to heart attack and stroke according to a study.
Many of my patients have heard me encourage them to eliminate sugar from their diet for a variety of reasons, from decreasing joint inflammation to helping to reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease, as well as general health and weight loss. In an effort to satiate that sweet tooth, many people have turned to sugar substitutes. Some of the more interesting options include Monk Fruit and Stevia. Manufactures will often add a bit of Erythritol to each of these sweeteners, so make sure to carefully read labels as always.

Take a deep breath. As we deal with the stresses of daily life, or even recover from respiratory conditions, the importance of breathing comes to mind. We all know how to breathe, obviously or we wouldn't be here. But do we breathe correctly?
Belly breathing, or diaphragmatic breathing is what we are born doing. We push our bellies out with our diaphragm, inviting air into our lungs. As time goes by, many of us tend to switch to accessory breathing, using our chest muscles to expand our rib cage rather than using our diaphragm. This does not provide for as deep or relaxing of a breath. A quick test is to lay on the floor with one hand on your belly and one hand on your chest. Take a deep breath. You should observe your belly expanding but your chest remaining still until your belly has fully expanded. Then let it all out. This method of breathing is beneficial for relaxation and best air exchange.
Many of us that have recovered from Covid or other respiratory conditions still experience breathing issues. The video below has been helpful for myself and many patients to improve breathing and lung function.

Hello everyone and happy holiday season. As many of you know, I had Covid on October 6 and was out for 2 weeks from it. My entire family came down with it at once. I was doing great in the beginning but on day 7, I could tell that I wasn't getting the oxygen I needed. I went to the MD and had chest xrays taken. I had mild pneumonia in both lungs. Over the next several days, my oxygen hovered between 92 and 95, and wow I really missed that top 5-8%. Going up stairs left me quite winded. Many people helped me through it and I would especially like to thank Dr. Michelle Franklin for her guidance and also lending me a nebulizer. I took so many supplements that I got sick of taking them! I am much better and am near 100% recovered. Thank you to the patients for being so understanding when I had to reschedule them.
ALSO, we have been and are dealing with ongoing construction. While progress is being made, it is painstakingly slow. Our parking area has ranged from being blocked off, torn up, gravel, in limbo, blocked again, pseudo black top, and unknown. We are supposed to get our final topping of blacktop tomorrow. We will initially park in the lot, but may have to switch to Blackhawk's upper lot if they decide to finish the lot tomorrow. Blackhawk has been so gracious to let us, our patients and our neighbors use their upper lot. Thank you so much Blackhawk Bank!
Anyway, this Thanksgiving, I am very thankful for my health, my family, my friends and my wonderful patients. I am so thankful to be able to practice in Port Byron in such a wonderful historic building. Thank you and I will do all I can to continue to provide the best that I can with chiropractic and acupuncture care. Dr. Crocker
