We do just as many pregnancy confirmation scans as we do our elective 3D/4D ultrasounds 🤯 Early pregnancy ultrasounds are a special moment but they can also come with a lot of questions and anxiety… so here’s some helpful information before booking💟
• We start abdominal pregnancy confirmation scans at 6 weeks gestation.
• At this stage; every single day matters in development. Even being off by a few days with ovulation or conception can completely change what I am able to see.
• Last menstrual period dates are helpful; BUT ovulation/conception dates are even more important when comparing measurements and estimating how far along you may be.
At very early scans:
🙏Sometimes we can see everything perfectly
🙏Sometimes we may only see a gestational sac
🙏Sometimes baby is simply too early to visualize yet abdominally
And that does NOT always mean something is wrong…early pregnancy timing can vary so much.
💧 A full bladder is VERY important before 12 weeks for abdominal ultrasounds with us. A full bladder helps lift the uterus upward and creates a better “window” for images which also gives me better visibility.
