Feeling tired all the time? Noticing unexplained weight changes, hair loss, or mood swings? It might not just be stress; your thyroid could be to blame.

This small, butterfly-shaped gland in your neck plays a significant role in regulating your energy, metabolism and even your heart rate. When it produces too much or too little hormone, it can lead to health issues that affect your entire body.

Thyroid problems are common and treatable, but they often go unnoticed for years. That’s why it is important to recognize the signs early and talk with your doctor about testing your thyroid hormone levels.

Concerned about your symptoms or unsure where to start? Our free, 24/7 Consult-A-Nurse® line is here to help. Call 844-70-NURSE (844-706-8773) anytime to speak with a licensed nurse for trusted advice.

is the leading cause of cancer-related death according to the CDC Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Many people don’t know the hidden risks they may be exposed to every day. Common lifestyle risk factors include:

🚬Smoking and exposure to secondhand smoke
💨Exposure to radon, a colorless and odorless radioactive gas that occurs naturally in soil
🦠Inhaling hazardous chemicals like asbestos, uranium and other toxic products
🏭Exposure to particle pollution, such as inhaling tiny particles from exhaust smoke
🎗️Prior radiation to treat other cancers

In addition to lifestyle risk factors, a family history of lung cancer may also increase your risk. Fortunately, lung cancer is most treatable when it’s caught early. Across our larger HCA Healthcare system of care, Sarah Cannon Cancer Network treats over 12,000 cases each year, bringing deep experience and compassionate care to every patient.

If you think you may have an increased risk for lung cancer based on these risk factors, talk with your doctor or schedule an appointment with one of our experts: https://bit.ly/4oWHxDO

Your family story holds clues that affect your risk for . Start a conversation with the women in your life – mothers, sisters, aunts, grandmas, cousins – to uncover any history of breast cancer. If you’re gathering with loved ones for Thanksgiving or the holiday season, it may be the perfect time for a chat.

Ask questions like:
➡ Who in our family has been diagnosed?
➡ At what age did they receive their diagnosis?
➡ Did they have other cancers that are linked to breast cancer, like ovarian, cervical or endometrial cancer?

Once you’ve gathered your family health history, it’s time to talk to a genetic counselor. They’ll help you:
✅ Understand how genes such as BRCA1 and BRCA2 influence risk 🧬
✅ Navigate the ins and outs of genetic testing
✅ Receive personalized screening and prevention recommendations

Early knowledge is power. When you combine family insights with expert guidance, you take control of your health journey. Learn more about the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes and guidelines for genetic testing: https://bit.ly/3LFOt9M

Heart symptoms never happen at a good time, but getting the right answers can make all the difference.

While EKGs, ultrasounds, and stress tests are helpful first steps, they often give a broad look at your heart. When you need more clarity, precision cardiac imaging takes things further with detailed CT scans and MRIs that reveal what’s really going on.

These advanced images help your cardiologist pinpoint the exact issue — from arrhythmias and cardiomyopathies to coronary artery or valvular disease — so your treatment plan is tailored to you.

If you’re experiencing chest pain, dizziness, shortness of breath, or an irregular heartbeat, don’t wait. Talking with a cardiologist is the best first step. They’ll decide whether precision imaging is needed based on your symptoms and risk factors.

Learn how precision imaging works — and when it’s recommended — in our latest blog: https://bit.ly/3M5lP1K.

Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer death in the United States. Not smoking is the best way to help lower your risk.

If you have a history of smoking, ask your doctor about annual lung cancer screening. The American Cancer Society recommends screening for people ages 50 to 80 with a history of smoking. Screening can help detect lung cancer early when treatment is more likely to be successful.

At HCA Florida Healthcare we offer a low dose CT scan procedure for lung cancer screening.

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month

Did you know a CT scan provides a more detailed image of the lungs than a standard chest X-ray, helping doctors detect tumors in their earliest and most treatable stages. Lung cancer survival rates are five times higher when detected early, yet nearly 70% of cases are diagnosed in stage 3 or 4.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the U.S. — but early screening can make all the difference.

If you may be at increased risk based on your medical or lifestyle factors, talk to your doctor or schedule a screening with one of our specialists today:

Seizures can be frightening, but understanding them helps you respond safely. A seizure is caused by sudden electrical activity in the brain and can look like shaking, staring, confusion or a brief loss of awareness.

If someone has a seizure, stay calm, move harmful objects away, cushion their head and roll them onto their side if needed. Don’t put anything in their mouth or try to hold them down. Call 911 if it lasts longer than five minutes, it’s their first seizure, they’re injured or having trouble breathing.

If you or a loved one recently experienced a seizure, follow up with a neurologist to understand the cause and next steps. For questions, call our Consult-A-Nurse® line at (844) 70-NURSE (844-706-8773) for free, 24/7 support.

is the leading cause of cancer deaths in America, according to the American Lung Association. And for many people, there are no symptoms until later stages of the disease. That’s why lung cancer screening is so important. Screening can detect cancer early, when it’s most treatable. It’s performed through a low-dose computerized tomography (CT) scan – an X-ray of your lungs that could lead to life-saving care.

Not sure if you should get screened? Follow these guidelines from HCA Healthcare’s Sarah Cannon Cancer Network. If you’re between age 50 and 80 and you meet at least one of the criteria shown here, you’re eligible for a low-dose CT scan. If you have Medicare, you must be 50 to 77 to be eligible. Talk with your doctor to learn more or schedule an appointment with one of our experts: https://bit.ly/4i0NpcA.
