Grief does not follow a calendar…
Grief just shows up every day differently, which can be incredibly unpredictable.

I wrote this poem when I was sitting in the middle of my “grief swirl,” which is what I called it when there wasn’t just one feeling, or one reaction, it was a moment when I found myself smothered by so many different emotions that I felt overwhelmed.

Grief doesn’t know if it’s a Monday, a weekend, a holiday, or a day that is special to you specifically because of significant memories you shared with someone you love on this particular day a year ago, five years ago, or even 20 years ago. 

Just be with those feelings, however they are hitting you, and know that you are not doing this alone and you are not doing it wrong.
