Shirley A. Bryant

Shirley A. Bryant, 88, of Catawba Island passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at Ottawa County Riverview Health Care Campus, surrounded by family. She was born May 2, 1937 in Portsmouth, OH the daughter of Carl and Pearl Boling. She married Russell Bryant, Sr. on September 25, 1954. They were married for 70 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. She enjoyed spending time with family, she loved their dog Brutus, was an advid Ohio State Buckeye fan, and liked watching football.

Surviving are her husband: Russell; son: Russell (Patti) Bryant, Jr, of Sandusky; daughters: Brenda (Dan) Thorbahn of Oak Harbor, Shelley (Eric Pasley) Bryant of Sandusky; grandchildren: Tiffany Monday, Spencer Bryant, Seth (Jamie) Bryant, Dustin (Allison) Thorbahn, Josh (Morgan) Thorbahn; great-grandchildren: Charlie Monday, Paislee Bryant, Bennett Thorbahn, and Tessa Thorbahn. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson: Shane Bryant; great-grandson Jack Monday; brothers: Malcom Pugh, John Pugh, Glenn Pugh, Larry Pugh, Raymond (Dow) Pugh, Gary Boling and sister: Betty Turner.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at Neidecker, Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1124 Fulton St. Port Clinton, OH with visitation before the service from 9:00 am – 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Catawba Island Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Humane Society of Ottawa County, 2424 E. Sand Rd. Port Clinton, OH 43452. Dr. Michael Scott Mabee

Dr. Michael Scott Mabee, 84, of Marysville and formerly of Catawba Island passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, OH. Born January 19, 1941 in East Cleveland the son of Dr. Horace Grant and Evelyn H. (Watson) Mabee. As a military child, he lived in numerous places. Upon graduating high school in Cleveland, he attended the Ohio State University for undergraduate school and later returned to earn a PhD in Microbiology. He was a faithful Buckeye fan, proudly flying his OSU flag every football game day. He started his career in Colorado where he worked for Coors as the head of the microbiology department, returning to Ohio to work in research and development for Combibloc and then eventually retiring from International Paper where he also worked in research and development. A favorite pastime, Mike was an avid boater for over 50 years, spending many of his summers and then retiring to Lake Erie. He married the love of his life, Nancy Lee Wirick, on September 1, 1978, celebrating 35 years of marriage until she preceded him in death on July 13, 2013. Mike was a proud member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Port Clinton, OH. He was a man of deep faith, who lived his life in accordance to those beliefs.

Surviving are his children: Chad Michael (Jodi) Rowe, Sr. of Berwick, PA, Jodie Marie (Jason) Rowe Stewart of Lagrange, GA, Patricia Lynn (Daryl) Mabee Kucera of Omaha, NE, Jeffrey Allen (Sherri) Mabee of Marysville, OH; grandchildren: Mitchell Scott (Jenna) Mabee, Courtney Lynne (Mike) Sappington, Joshua Taylor Kucera, Haile Catherine (Michael) McAnally, Chad Michael Rowe, Jr., Anna Lee (Richard) Cashman, Abigail Lynn (Ethan) Thomas, Rayne Ayn (Ezekiel) Benick,; great-grandchildren: Brayden J Lucas, Sayge Jeffrey Lucas, Grayson Joseph Lucas, Kayce Mical Sappington, Owen Kenneth Rowe, Charleigh Rowe, Ella Mae Cashman, Ryker Jensen Thomas, Jethro Miles Thomas, a niece, several nephews and last but not least his beloved dog, Bailey who has been his constant companion for the last 12 years. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother: Dr. William G. Mabee and sister: Pamela Mabee.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 am October 18th, 2025 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Port Clinton. Entombment will be in Catawba Island Cemetery Columbarium. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Warren G Taylor

Warren G. Taylor, 86, of Port Clinton, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2025. He was born July 9, 1939 in Dante, VA the son of Paul and Daisy (Deskins) Taylor, Sr. Warren moved to Port Clinton in the late 1950’s where he met the love of his life, Millie Faretta and they married on August 29, 1956 and she preceded him in death on May 21, 2025. He retired from US Gypsum. After learning to be a mechanic from his dad, he became a master mechanic of Classic and Hot Rod Cars, building his 1st race car for his brother Bob who won his first race at Norwalk. He loved swap meets and race cars. He was a car enthusiast and loved country music to the core. He was also an animal humanitarian. Warren had a deep compassionate caring heart and soul. He was a generous and giving person and shared his knowledge to many and helped those in need.

Surviving are his sister: Daisy M. (Steve) Honaker of Virginia. He was preceded in death by his wife: Millie; infant daughter Cheryl Lynn Taylor on November 19, 1962; siblings: Jack Hughes, infant Joann Hughes, Robert “Bob” Taylor, Eula Mae Rasnake, Paul Taylor, Jr., Dora Breeding, Jerry Taylor, Sr., and Emmett Taylor.

Private graveside services were held at Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Humane Society of Ottawa County 2424 E. Sand Rd. Port Clinton, OH 43452 or Island Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary, 3620 E. State Rd. Port Clinton, OH.

James Homer Fitzwater, 86, of Catawba Island and formerly of Elyria passed away Sunday, July 20, 2025 at the Avon Hospital Cleveland Clinic. He was born March 24, 1939 of Fayetteville, WV the son of the late Homer and Beulah Fitzwater. He married Ann Marie Gorman on June 27, 1997. James graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1957, he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Personnel Management and Business Education from West Virginia Institute of Technology in 1961, he received his Master of Arts Degree in Secondary School Administration in 1967 from Marshall University and he did graduate work at Akron University and Bowling Green State University.

He was a teacher at Wirt County High School from 1961 - 1962, a teacher and coach at Meadow Bridge High School in West Virginia from 1962 – 1964 and Firelands High School in Ohio from 1964 – 1965. He then worked in the Personnel Dept. at General Motors Corp. Elyria, OH from 1965 – 1968. He became the Assistant Principal at Elyria High School in 1968 and the Principal at Elyria West High School in 1973 where he retired in 1993. After retirement he worked for Wilmot Printing Co. from 1996 – 2004.

He was a Past Member of Ohio North Central Association, State Committee; Past Member of Lorain County Board of Education; Past Member of Phi Delta Kappa; Past Member of Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators and a member of Elks Lodge in Elyria, OH.

Surviving are his wife: Ann; brother Charles (Georgia) Fitzwater of Myrtle Beach, SC. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Robert Fitzwater.

Private family Entombment services will be held at Catawba Island Cemetery Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P. O.
