EXPERT HAND CARE | Dupuytren’s contracture is a hand condition that develops when tissue in the palm thickens, forming bands that pull one or more fingers into a bent position. Over time, this can make it difficult—or even impossible—to fully straighten the affected fingers, impacting daily tasks and hand function.

At Orthopedic Associates of Port Huron, our hand and upper extremity specialists are experienced in diagnosing and treating Dupuytren’s contracture, helping patients restore movement and function to their hands.

NURSEMAID’S ELBOW | Nursemaid's elbow occurs when a child's elbow joint partially dislocates, often from pulling or yanking on their arm—or from something as innocent as swinging them around by their arms—causing the ligaments around the elbow to slip. It's common in children ages 1 – 4 and can cause discomfort and limited arm movement.

If a child suddenly avoids using their arm, keeps it close to their body, or shows signs of discomfort when trying to move it, nursemaid's elbow could be the culprit. The affected arm may appear slightly bent, and the child may be hesitant to straighten it.

We believe in the power of prevention. Educating parents, caregivers, and even older siblings about the risks and how to handle a child's arm safely can help reduce the likelihood of nursemaid's elbow.

If you or a loved one is suffering from an elbow injury or condition, request an appointment with one of our elbow experts!

DID YOU KNOW? | Most bike-related injuries we treat could’ve been prevented with just a few simple precautions.

We love seeing our community stay active—and biking is one of the best ways to enjoy the outdoors, get some exercise, and even commute. But whether you’re pedaling through the neighborhood or training for your next long ride, safety must come first.

Here are a few tips from our team (we’ve seen it all—trust us!):

🔹 Helmets aren’t optional. Even at low speeds, a fall can cause serious head or neck injuries.
🔹 Check your setup. A poorly fitted bike can strain your back, knees, and wrists over time.
🔹 Stay alert. Potholes, gravel, and distracted drivers can turn a good ride into a painful one.
🔹 Be visible. Reflectors, lights, and bright clothing can make all the difference—especially at dawn or dusk.

If a tumble off your bike has left you with pain—don’t tough it out. We’re here to help you recover and ride again.

ORTHO TIPS | To Keep Your Golf Game Strong ⛳️

Whether you’re swinging for birdies or just out for fun, protect your joints and avoid injuries with these quick tips:

✅ Stretch it out. Loosen up your shoulders, hips, and back before you hit the first tee. A dynamic warm-up helps prevent muscle strain.
✅ Mind your posture. Poor stance can lead to back pain. Keep your spine neutral and knees slightly bent during your setup.
✅ Engage your core. Your power starts here—not your arms! A strong core supports your swing and protects your lower back.
✅ Use proper mechanics. Overuse injuries like golfer’s elbow often come from bad form. Don’t be afraid to take a lesson to fine-tune your swing.
✅ Stay flexible. Regular stretching improves your range of motion—a big bonus for your backswing and follow-through.
✅ Don’t play through pain. Soreness is common. Sharp, persistent pain is not. See a specialist before a small issue becomes a big problem.

We hope you’re able to celebrate golf month to its fullest—but remember, if something doesn’t feel right, our team is here to help you move better and play longer.
