Our CEO, Deb Johnson, is taking part in today’s Roof Top Rally during the Community Roof-Sit for Kids, a fundraiser for the St. Clair County Child Abuse/Neglect Council.

This friendly competition puts local leaders on the roof to see who can raise the most money in support of child abuse prevention and advocacy. Last year’s Roof Sit raised nearly $68,000—and with your help, we can go even higher this year!

Here’s how you can help right now:
➡️ Donate and select “Team CMH” to give Deb the edge in this rooftop showdown.
➡️ Tune in to Q Country 107.1 throughout the day for live coverage, playful banter, and rooftop challenges.

Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about bragging rights; it’s about supporting the belief that “It shouldn’t hurt to be a child.” 💜

To donate: call 810-966-9911, text “roofsit” to 243725, or scan the QR code on the flyer.

Privatizing oversight of our public behavioral health system doesn’t remove bureaucracy; it multiplies it. This shift threatens more than just budgets. It risks transparency, local accountability, and the quality of care that CMHs and their communities have built together over decades.

At the beginning of August, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced it would be seeking competitive bids to manage the state’s public mental health system, with proposals due September 29. This means Michigan’s community-based mental health system which has been built over decades to serve people with complex needs, could be handed over to private companies.

While the bidding process is framed as a way to improve care, it brings significant risks and does not address the real gaps in services that indivduals and families face every day.

To help separate fact from fiction, the Community Mental Health Association of Michigan has created a Myth vs. Fact resource that explains what’s truly at stake for individuals, families, and communities across the state.

Happy Labor Day!

On this day that celebrates hard work, we want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible team at SCCCMH and the many ways they make this place run. Whether they’re crunching numbers, fixing tech glitches, filing/copying, prescribing meds, running groups, or walking alongside someone in their recovery, every role matters. From admin, billing, finance, and IT to direct care staff, nurses, doctors, social workers, case managers, and peer supports - thank you for all the ways you show up every day to support recovery and wellness in our community.

Reminder: All SCCCMH locations are closed today, September 1st, for Labor Day. If you have a mental health emergency, call 810-966-2575 to reach our 24/7 Crisis Line. We will resume our regular operating hours on Tuesday.
