Total Health Chiropractic Total Health Chiropractic The ultimate turning point for him was when his family chiropractor saved his mom’s life.

Dr. Skylar Bakko went to chiropractic school at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa and graduated cm laude in February 2012. Since earning his Doctor of Chiropractic, he completed hours of study on Brain-Based Wellness, including Quantum Neurology, Applied Kinesiology, Developmental Functional Neurology, Neuro Emotional Technique, and Beyond Functional Medicine. Awarded the Katman Doctor of the Year award in 2022, Dr. Skylar Bakko has dedicated his life to helping those suffering from pain and chronic illness. She had been experiencing fatigue, weight gain, poor sleep, digestive problems, muscle pains, hair loss and many others. His mother was first misdiagnosed with having an infection and their chiropractor detected a potential problem with her thyroid. It was later discovered that his mom had thyroid cancer. Thankfully, it was found early enough, and after a few medical procedures, she was cancer-free. It was at that moment in his life that he chose to become a natural healer. The whole purpose of our clinic is to be a beacon of hope for the community in need. Its purpose is to not only help others maintain their health, but also to give life back to those who are suffering. He is continuously striving to improve the techniques and technology he uses in his clinic and believes in the three main principles of alternative healing: we are born with a divine intelligence, which is the intelligence to self-regulate and self-heal; the body should be maintained and healed using natural methods; and when love and skill are combined expect a masterpiece. Dr. Bakko is thankful to have been blessed with the knowledge and skill to help people. Though the path can be challenging, he thrives in the ever-evolving learning experience that comes with treating rare diseases and chronic pain. For him, the best feeling in the world is knowing he has helped change someone’s life by restoring their own healing potential. Family is also an important part of his life and he cherishes the relationships he has with his parents and sisters. He is happily married to his wife Susy and together they have a gorgeous little girl. Dr. Bakko is an avid sports fan and enjoys playing soccer, bowling, playing the drums, fitness, and trying new cuisines. The Bakko Guarantee

When you’re told you have fatty liver disease but you’re not a drinker…

A notable study published in 2019 by researchers from UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital showed that reducing dietary sugar (particularly fructose) for just 9 days led to dramatic improvements in metabolic health among obese children.

Key results included:

- Liver fat reduced by 22%
- Blood pressure decreased
- Improved insulin sensitivity
- Lower triglyceride levels

The study involved removing added sugars while keeping total calorie intake the same. The participants ate foods mimicking their usual diet but with reduced sugar and fructose content.

The improvements in liver fat and insulin function happened without weight loss, indicating that sugar reduction alone triggered the positive effects.

Liver fat, also known as hepatic steatosis, is a marker of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which is increasingly common in both children and adults due to high-sugar diets.

Reducing sugar intake, especially from sweetened beverages and processed foods, reduces fat buildup in the liver and improves how the body handles insulin—essential for preventing and managing type 2 diabetes and fatty liver disease.

While long-term benefits depend on sustained lifestyle changes, the short-term impact of reducing sugar is clinically meaningful and highlights how quick dietary interventions can initiate the healing process for metabolic disorders.

Common Glandular dysfunction in the General Practice.

Dr. Walter Schmidt was a brilliant physician who was instrumental in providing me with a greater understanding of how instrumental nutrition can be when trying to correct hormonal imbalances. He passed away a few years ago but many of us in the healing arts will forever be in debt to him for the knowledge he shared. The following comments were taken directly from the book he wrote which is titled above. These particular comments about estrogen/progesterone imbalances are credited to Dr. Rubel….. An imminent endocrinologist in his day.

There are four major body types when considering estrogen/progesterone hormonal imbalances in women.

Type 1 Excessive Estrogen: The patient will tend to have a very heavy menstrual flow which may last 7 days or longer. The cycle will be on the short side. The patient will tend to retain water, particularly premenstrually, and often complains of breast soreness. The patient tends to be naturally endowed with large breasts and is often diagnosed with cystic breast disease. Menstrual cramping may be a problem.

Type 2 Low Progesterone: Rubel states that low progesterone is the cause of dysmenorrhea(painful me**es). There are other causes of menstrual pain but if the cause is glandular in nature then it’s low progesterone levels. The patient will have a pattern similar to that of excess estrogen, including a long flow and early period. Progesterone literally promotes gestation and implantation of the fertilized egg so infertility is often a problem. In the absence of adequate progesterone the pelvic ligaments do not relax as they should (in preparation for pregnancy) and with menstruation some of the classic menstrual pains can result. Often these patients are diagnosed with endometriosis.

Type 3 Excess Progesterone: These patients will have a late period lasting 32 to 35 days or longer. Typically they have a scanty flow and the patient's build is typically small breasted. Generally menstrual pain is low but not always.

Type 4 Low Estrogen: This patient will have a very short flow, possibly only 1 to 2 days. The period tends to be late with a scanty flow. The patient's build is more often on the small breast side and the patient may have painful me**es if she also has accompanying low progesterone. Any combination of hormonal imbalances is possible but most commonly you’ll see that of high estrogen and low progesterone.Pregnancy in this scenario is difficult at best.

Various nutritional supplements are effective at hormonal regulation and balance. Vitamin E is critical whenever steroid hormone precursor factors are needed and Wheat Germ Oil is the best form of Vitamin E for hormonal imbalance. Standard Process Labs makes a fortified WGO product I’ve used with success for many years.

They make another product called Ovex which is glandular in nature and will absolutely elevate Progesterone when required.

Another one of their products is called Utrophin which is needed to reduce uterine inflammation and aids in cellular repair. The uterus is an estrogen conversion factory helping to activate estrogen for use by the body.
There are other products available to help with hormonal balance but above all there are five factors to consider when dealing with painful me**es which are common…… but not normal!

1.calcium metabolism
2. Spinal and pelvic subluxations
3. Visceroptosis
4. Iliocecal valve problems
5. Endocrine and hormonal imbalance

Find an AK doctor like Dr. Bakko who knows how to test and correct these various conditions and feel much better.
