Today, we recognize Kidney Cancer Awareness Month.

The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs located on either side of the spine, behind the stomach area.

Kidney cancer may develop when genetic changes in kidney cells cause them to grow and divide without control. While the exact cause is not always known, several factors are associated with an increased risk.

Each month, we're spotlighting the incredible physicians who make NYCBS feel like family. This month, meet Dr. Nyatanga.

Dr. Nyatanga is a board-certified Medical Oncologist and Hematologist, who earlier in her career helped provide care for sick children in Zimbabwe, giving her a unique passion and appreciation for accessible medicine for all.

Aside from treating patients medically, she also enjoys getting to know them personally, “So while we fight cancer together, do life together too,” she says.
