It’s fitting that Jules Verne, father of science fiction, would have a dark, otherworldly gravestone. Two years after his death, a sculpture was erected atop his marker. Designed by sculptor Albert Roze, and using the actual death mask of the writer, the statue depicts the shrouded figure of Jules Verne breaking his own tombstone and emerging from the grave.

It’s a phone that never rings and never will. But our Wind Phone at Skyline Memorial Gardens in Portland, Oregon, provides a quiet kind of to those who are . As Lisa Diamond, Skyline location manager said, “Even though I’m in the death care industry, it doesn’t mean that I’m immune from ,” she said. “I lost my mother two years ago.
