East Coast Wildlife Rehab

East Coast Wildlife Rehab East Coast Wildlife is a Florida wildlife clinic and rehabilitation center, serving Volusia and Flagler counties, and a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

East Coast Wildlife is an emergency care and rehab facility, catering to all of Florida's native wildlife, and specializing in Sandhill Cranes and birds of prey. We currently hold a Class II & III State Wildlife Permit and a Federal Permit for all avian species. We are dedicated to the rehabilitation of all Florida’s orphaned and injured wildlife. Our mission is to release all successfully rehabilitated animals back into the wild. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We are excited to announce a new project coming soon to the Daytona Beach area, the Florida Wild Zoological Park. The Florida Wild Zoo will be a 100 acre wildlife park/zoo, which will provide a safe forever home to donated, confiscated, abused, or unwanted exotics.

I was one of the lucky ones that had a chance to meet her up close and personal. She was special and will be missed. Sad she's gone but happy she's free!

Winter the Dolphin, star of “Dolphin Tale” and Tampa Bay icon, has sadly passed away following her battle with intestinal issues.

Wildlife Rehab For Dummies - Raccoons
We have called everywhere from Jax to Miami for anyone taking baby raccoons. No one is taking them. FWC will not help and will tell you if you do not have a permit then put them back where you found them to die! We say "save everything you can". The biggest problem for the wildlife rehabber is that the State will not help with funding and all the cost for everything falls on the rehabber totally. This is why there are very few wildlife rehabbers plus who wants to put up with FWC! One facility cannot handle the cost of it all. So, here we go;
1) Make sure baby is warm and free of fleas and ticks- Sunbeam heating Pads does not shut off. You can find one at CVS. $44.95. They need a dry, safe, warm bed that must be cleaned out daily.
2) Feeding 4-5 times a day. www.foxvalleynutrition.com for Raccoons-Day One 40/25. Pick up a human baby bottle from Wal-Mart the short one 3 for $2.95 mix formula according to instructions on container. You can rub the back of their necks to get them to nurse.
3) Please do not humanize them. We do not do wildlife to have a pet but to return them back to their home the wild.
4) When they are old enough (have teeth) you can soak dry cat in the formula. They will start eating food.
5) Sanitation- Please wash hands singing happy birthday 3 times to completely clean. Wear gloves when handling.
There is so much wrong info about the care of wildlife out on the internet we are only giving our rehab knowledge because lots are going to do it anyway.
If you need help call us. East Coast Wildlife takes no responsibility for injury of anyone trying this. Be careful and remember wildlife is WILD!
P.S- Kitten formula can be used but Fox Valley is best!
Next up, SQUIRRELS.
To all FWC personal- photo was taken in 2012.
Question #1- What temp should heating pad be on? A towel should be between the pad and the container the baby is in. Only keep pad on setting #1.
Question #2- How much do you feed baby? They will let you know when they are full. Their tummy should be round full when done. I don't worry to much about this all animals can throw-up extra food EXCEPT- bunnies and horses cannot and should never be over fed.

Finally have a second because of day light saving gave me extra hr.
Why we do not post any longer. This is FWC.
68A-9.006 Wildlife Rehabilitation Permit.
# 3- Wildlife undergoing rehabilitation or medical treatment shall not be exhibited.
I was sent an e-mail telling me by FWC to look up the word EXHIBIT.
Exhibit- to display something for public inspection.
Our Facebook was fun and educational to the public. I legally could not take a photo of any wildlife and post it say FWC.
BUT- YOU CAN EUTHANIZE AN ANIMAL BY PUTTING IT IN A BAG AND STICKING IT ON THE END OF YOUR TAILPIPE. THATS LEGAL! YOU CAN INJECT A BIRD IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD WITH WATER TO EUTHANIZE IT WHILE ITS ALIVE! THAT'S LEGAL! YOU CAN PUT A RACCOON IN A CAGE AND DROWN IT! THAT'S LEGAL. BUT TAKE A PHOTO! THAT'S ILLEGAL! THIS IS FWC. Not the man and woman riding around in the trucks. They hate it too, and they try to do what they can for the animals. But, it's their job to follow orders of Tallahassee. The leader of FWC is not even from this State but KY. Since there are so few rehab anymore and everyone is doing it without training. We will be posting a Wildlife Rehab Care for Dummies in each animal soon.

I have been saying this for years FWC is a JOKE!!
When I was getting an attorney for the falconry case I talked to a couple of attorneys from Tallahassee. They both told me the same thing " FWC is the most disrespected State agency of them all!" I said "even Child services!" They said " way below Child services" Now, that's saying something! They do not give a crap about our native wildlife!!! This agency is only to collect money nothing else!

State officials acknowledge bears “add value to our lives simply by existing,” but their bear management plan serves as nothing more than an excuse to bow to the demands of the trophy hunters that want to put a head on a wall.

Hello everyone, I know we have been missing in action. We are still here. I have a lot to post and update you all on. We have truly missed all our facebook friends! Our attorney Matt Metz advised us not to post anything till our case was won! I was found not guilty in court facing a 5 year prison term for letting a bird free! What a waste of taxpayers money! Matt put the very sport of falconry on trial and it was very heartbreaking to hear what these falconers really do to our wildlife! We will be working hard to change the laws regarding this cruel sport. Stay turned. FWC (Florida Fish and Wildlife) has said that our facebook is breaking their rules. I understand that you cannot post any wildlife that is in rehab. I will not be taking our site down as it shows all the great things we have done for this community. The show was also shut down as we could not show any wildlife. A lot of wasted time but we are strong and have found a new cause. Raquel Levy is a animal rights attorney. She will be assisting us on our journey to STOP FALCONRY in AMERICA or at the very least change laws so they cannot catch wild Birds of Prey in traps then cage them and starve them for this sport! Always on the side of the critters, it feels good to be back!

Something great is coming.

The Sierra Club has joined up with us to save our native wildlife. Love the Sierra Club they do so much for conservation I remember my mom donating to them when I was a child. We are very proud to have them working with us to move forward into the future!

The Sierra Club is an environmental organization in the United States. It was founded on May 28, 1892, in San Francisco, California, by the Scottish-American preservationist John Muir, who became its first president.

Finally caught this Black vulture. Been chasing him for a week around Holly Hill. There is nothing wrong with him except he is covered with something sticky that has coated his wings. A good bath with Dawn and food then he should be ready to go.
