Married couple Monica and Jim shared many experiences during their years together, including having cataracts. They learned about the sterling reputation of Q. Jocelyn Ge, MD, PhD, at Premier Eye Clinic, and turned to the board-certified ophthalmologist for help.

Monica and Jim also experienced high pressure in their eyes, a condition called glaucoma. To treat their glaucoma along with their cataracts, Dr. Ge placed special stents in their eyes at the time of cataract surgery. Because of their glaucoma, Monica and Jim weren’t candidates for multifocal lens implants, so Dr. Ge replaced their cloudy, natural lenses with accommodating lens implants called Crystalens®.

What is a cataract? 🤔

As we age, the natural lenses in our eyes can become clouded. Though painless, cataracts can cause hazy vision, unusual glare, poor night vision, or reduced color perception. People especially notice difficultly in low-light situations like night driving. 🚘

Cataracts tend to develop slowly, and surgery may not be immediate necessary, but if your ability to read, drive, or carry out other normal activities is hindered, cataract surgery will likely be the best solution. 👩‍⚕️

What is Glaucoma? 🤔

Glaucoma is often called the “silent thief of sight”. It is called this because the degenerative eye disease slowly steals your vision and can lead to blindness. In the beginning stages, glaucoma symptoms are very hard to recognize. 👁👁

Most that get glaucoma have no idea they actually have this damaging disease. Loss of vision normally occurs gradually. If left untreated, glaucoma permanently damages the optic nerve, leading to blindness. If it is detected early enough the progress of the disease can be halted with medical and surgical treatment options. 👩‍⚕️
