Rill Chapel, Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home has been family owned and serving the community since 1906. Our new facility, Rill Chapel, was completed in June 1992 and is one of the most modern facilities in the state of Washington - beautiful, comfortable, and completely accessible. Last Thursday, November 6, Port Orchard Rotary sponsored South Kitsap High School's third 'Youth Career Connections Night'. Students rotated through three 30-minute open-ended conversations with professionals from various industries. Carissa, a funeral director/embalmer at Rill Chapel met with several inquiring students and discussed the idea of funeral services as being a part of their future. The students came into the conversation with a surprising amount of background research, great questions and the willingness to listen. It was a fun filled evening shared with many other professionals from various industries; and it is always great to go back and visit one's old stomping grounds. Thank you, Port Orchard Rotary and SKHS for giving our students this amazing opportunity.

This family-owned, local funeral home has been serving Port Orchard and surrounding communities with compassion and professionalism for years. They provide on-site cremation, burial, funeral services, pre-planning, and support with veteran benefits and life insurance. Their dedicated team works closely with families to create meaningful tributes that honor every life.

They also sponsor one of the downtown Port Orchard Christmas trees, known as the Tree of Remembrance, and create ornaments to honor the families they have served over the past year who have lost a loved one.

Do you know the difference between a memorial park and a cemetery? Memorial parks were designed to have flat grave markers only, so the overall ambiance of the final resting grounds resembles a park. Cemeteries are final resting grounds that allow upright monuments/headstones.
Each final resting ground has their own regulations on size and material requirements for a monument/headstone.
Sunset Lane Cemetery is a memorial park & cemetery. There are certain sections of the grounds that allow flat markers only, and other sections that allow your choice of flat or upright markers.

Sunset Lane Memorial Park & Cemetery's Cedar Cove Scattering Garden is a beautiful location to place a loved one's cremated remains when a permanent location is not desired. Reflections Pathway also provides the option for memorialization on the Reflection Pathway Memory Wall, located adjacent to the garden.
