If you pay attention, and stay conscious and aware, magical, mystical occurrences abound throughout each day to affirm our place in the world.
Whenever I feel lonely or homesick or want to feel better connected to the past, I walk the floors of an antique mall. I've always felt very much displaced in the era through which I am presenting living; being surrounded by the history of artifacts, books, toys and gadgets from 80 or more years ago makes me feel nostalgic, believe it or not.
Yesterday was one such occasion. Heading out, three birds passed in front of my car, always a welcome sign. Pacing leisurely through the aisles and booths of the antique mall, I became aware that the P.A. system was playing music from the 1960s and 70s. In particular, I recognized Elton John's classic "Your Song" as the current selection. A few steps further on, I saw a row of music CDs and prominently right on top was "Elton John's Greatest Hits."
As if this wasn't intriguing enough, I thought I'd really push the limits of a supposed coincidence. Yup, I turned the CD over just to doublecheck and -- as "Your Song" was still playing on the intercom -- I smiled to myself: there it was, listed first on the roster of the CD's greatest hits!
This wasn't a moment of Déjà vu, of feeling the fleeting…magic is all around us! Messages from beyond.
