Our teams from the Franklin and Gulf County Health Departments have been working together to place blue pinwheels across our communities. Each pinwheel represents hope, resilience, and the importance of preventing child abuse before it ever begins. We're grateful for our dedicated staff and community partners to help make this work possible every day. To learn more about Child Abuse Prevention Month, visit www.preventchildabuse.org

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month.
This year’s theme, Pinwheels of Possibility, highlights how partnering with families and communities can help prevent child abuse before it occurs. Prevention begins by ensuring families have access to the support, resources, and connections they need—before challenges turn into crises.
Across the nation, communities are coming together to strengthen families, elevate prevention solutions, and create the conditions children need to grow up safe, supported, and surrounded by opportunity. With families at the center, the possibilities are endless.

Florida is making changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to better align the program with its intended purpose: providing low-income households with access to a more nutritious diet to alleviate hunger and combat malnutrition. Starting on April 20, 2026, SNAP benefits will no longer be used to buy certain foods that offer little to no nutritional value. SNAP benefits can continue to be used to purchase the same healthy, nutrient-rich foods they always have, including fruits, vegetables, grains, meat, dairy, and other staples that support a balanced diet and overall well-being. Spring is in the air, and so is the pollen. If you deal with seasonal allergies, you’re not alone. Those itchy eyes, sneezing fits, and stuffy noses tend to show up right on cue this time of year.

Unfortunately, pollen doesn’t just stay outside - it can hitch a ride into your home on clothes, shoes, pets, and especially through open windows and doors. Once inside, it can linger in the air and make symptoms even worse.

A few simple steps to freshen up your indoor air can go a long way in helping you breathe easier and enjoy the season a little more.
