Have you ever felt like you’re carrying the relationship… while your partner checks out?

Or like you’re constantly managing, reminding, fixing, or holding things together?

That’s not partnership. That’s a dynamic.

And for many couples, it quietly shifts into a parent-child pattern over time.

It doesn’t mean something is “wrong” with you or your partner—but it does mean something needs attention.

This blog walks through:
• What this dynamic actually looks like
• Why it happens
• And how to start shifting back into balance

Because healthy relationships aren’t built on one person holding everything together.

This picture pretty much sums up the work I do…

🧠 Mental Health
💬 Counseling
🥑 Nutrition

Three separate services—each important on their own.

But here’s what I’ve learned over time:

People don’t come in struggling in just one area.

They’re overwhelmed.
Burnt out.
Emotionally drained.
Running on caffeine and survival mode.

And it’s rarely just mental.
It’s rarely just physical.

That’s why I offer all three.

Some clients need a place to process and be heard.
Some need structure, tools, and direction.
Some need to understand what’s happening inside their body.
And some need all of it, working together.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach here.

Just real support—based on where you are and what you actually need.

Most people think their struggles with food are about willpower.

So they try harder.
They start over.
They tell themselves to be more disciplined.

But nothing actually changes… because they’re only looking at part of the picture.

Your body plays a major role in:
• Cravings
• Emotional eating
• Energy crashes
• Mood shifts

Things like blood sugar, digestion, stress, sleep, and nutrient status all matter more than most people realize.

This is the work I do.

Not diets.
Not restriction.
Not starting over every Monday.

But helping you understand your body and learn how to work with it instead of constantly fighting it.

If you’ve been feeling stuck and you’re ready to approach this differently, I’m now accepting nutrition clients.

Message me “NUTRITION” or use the link in my bio to learn more.

Most people think they’re eating “healthy”…
but still struggle with energy crashes, mood swings, and cravings.

That’s usually not a willpower issue.
It’s a blood sugar and nervous system issue.

A meal can look healthy on the surface—but if it’s missing protein, fats, or enough fiber, your body will feel it.

→ Mid-morning crashes
→ Irritability or anxiety
→ Brain fog
→ Constant hunger

This is why I focus less on “healthy eating” and more on intentional eating.

Meals like the one in this post work because they:
• Stabilize blood sugar
• Support neurotransmitters
• Nourish your nervous system
• Keep you full and focused

This is the foundation of how we support both mental health and physical health from an integrative perspective.

You don’t need to overhaul everything.
Just start paying attention to how your meals are built.

Your body will tell you what’s working.

Save this as a simple template to come back to.

The other day I was visiting my brother, and we were trying to find a health food store in his town.

He didn’t know where any of them were.

When we finally found one, he said the last time he’d been there was when our mom was still alive.

Then he said:
“What difference does it make? Mom ate healthy and still died of cancer.”

And I understood what he meant.

I think a lot of people quietly carry that same question.

Here’s what I’ve come to understand:

We don’t take care of our bodies to guarantee we won’t get sick.

We take care of our bodies to influence how we live while we’re here.

Our energy.
Our mood.
Our clarity.
Our nervous system.

That matters.

Even with genetics, it’s not all or nothing.

Family history is information—
not permission to disengage.

My mom’s death doesn’t mean health doesn’t matter.

It reminds me that life isn’t guaranteed…
and that makes how I care for my body now feel even more meaningful.

If you’ve ever thought, “What’s the point?”—you’re not alone.

But the answer isn’t “it doesn’t matter.”

It’s that we’ve been asking the wrong question.

Today I tried a new recipe from Eat Like a Girl — Orange Chia Seed Muffins.

The recipe comes from a section the author calls “Hormone Feasting.” The idea is that women’s bodies aren’t designed to stay in a constant low-carb state. There are phases when our bodies actually benefit from bringing supportive carbohydrates back in — especially when progesterone is rising.

These muffins are meant to be a go-to option on the days you’re craving carbs but still want to support blood sugar balance. The recipe includes apple cider vinegar and chia seeds to help soften the blood sugar spike while still giving you something sweet. She also recommends using a gluten-free all-purpose flour to be gentler on the gut, and pairing the muffins with grass-fed butter or nut butter to stabilize blood sugar even more.

The author especially recommends recipes like this during times when progesterone is more active — what she calls the “manifestation and nurture phases.” For my perimenopausal friends, this can also be helpful on days when you’re spotting, feeling more anxious, or having trouble sleeping.

One thing I really appreciate about the recipes in this section is the variety of ingredients. They pull from a diverse mix of fruits, vegetables, starches, and spices, which supports both hormones and the microbiome.

And a little real-life honesty here:
This was my first time making the recipe, and while it tastes great… my baking skills still need some refinement. The muffins didn’t come out exactly as expected.

But that’s part of the process.

Learning to cook in a way that supports your body isn’t about perfection. It’s about experimenting, trying new things, and slowly building confidence in the kitchen again.

For me, nutritional therapy isn’t about rigid food rules. It’s about reconnecting with food in a way that supports the body — and sometimes that just looks like baking muffins on a random day and seeing how it turns out.

Perimenopause didn’t arrive dramatically for me.

It showed up quietly.

Sleep shifted.
Recovery changed.
Stress tolerance narrowed.
Caffeine started hitting differently.

At first, I questioned myself.

Was I overtraining?
Undereating?
Not managing stress well enough?

What I’ve come to understand is that perimenopause is not a failure of discipline.

It’s a neuroendocrine transition.

Estrogen and progesterone don’t just decline — they fluctuate. And those fluctuations ripple into mood, blood sugar stability, sleep architecture, inflammation, and nervous system reactivity.

What surprised me most was this:

Perimenopause amplified what was already true.

If I skipped protein, I felt it.
If I ignored sleep, it showed up fast.
If I pushed too hard, recovery lagged.

The margin for “pushing through” shrank.

But something else happened too.

When I shifted from intensity to precision — tracking patterns, stabilizing blood sugar, cycle syncing workouts, adjusting supplements thoughtfully — I felt more anchored than I expected.

This season hasn’t made me weaker.

It’s made me more discerning.

I wrote about this transition — not as a dramatic crisis, but as a recalibration.

If you’re in your late 30s or 40s and quietly noticing changes, you’re not imagining them.

You may just be entering a new physiological rhythm.

You can read the full reflection here:

A holistic look at perimenopause, hormone fluctuations, blood sugar stability, and nervous system regulation and how becoming a student of your body changes everything.
