Vitamin D isn’t just a vitamin—it behaves more like a hormone, and it impacts far more than most people realize. Vitamin D receptors are found throughout the endocrine system, including the adrenal glands, ovaries, te**es, and pituitary. When levels are optimized, people often experience:

• Better hormone signaling
• Improved energy and mood
• Faster workout recovery
• Support for testosterone in men and estrogen balance in women

Vitamin D also plays a meaningful role in body composition. Low levels are commonly associated with increased body fat, reduced insulin sensitivity, and a slower metabolic engine.

Here’s the part many people miss: most vitamin D supplements are fat-soluble, meaning they require a fatty meal for proper absorption. For people who fast, calorie restrict, or skip high-fat breakfasts, this becomes a major barrier to consistency.

That’s where micellized vitamin D3 + K2 changes the game. This technology allows vitamin D to be absorbed **without dietary fat**, leading to better compliance, more consistent absorption, and better lab results. Vitamin K2 is included to help direct calcium into the bones—where it belongs—and away from the arteries.

Nighttime cold & flu meds aren’t as harmless as they sound.

After taking an over-the-counter nighttime flu product, someone passed out, hit the sink, broke a tooth, and split their chin open.

Here’s what caused it:
Many nighttime cold and flu products contain sedating antihistamines.

They don’t just make you sleepy.
They can:
• Slow reaction time
• Affect balance
• Lower blood pressure
• Cause significant stomach pain

That stomach pain can trigger a sudden drop in heart rate and blood pressure.
Stand up in the middle of the night, and the brain may not get enough blood flow.

That’s how people pass out. This becomes even more serious as we age.
For adults 65+, falls are one of the leading causes of injury-related deaths in the U.S.

The smarter approach:
Instead of multi-ingredient nighttime products, work with your pharmacist or prescriber to target the actual symptom.

Over-the-counter does not mean risk-free.
If this helps prevent even one fall, it’s worth sharing.

👉 Always ask your pharmacist before choosing a nighttime medication.

Most people assume “nighttime” flu medicine is harmless.

It isn’t always. After taking an over-the-counter nighttime cold & flu product, someone passed out, hit the sink, broke a tooth, and split their chin open.

Here’s why this happens:
Many nighttime cold and flu products contain sedating antihistamines.

These don’t just make you sleepy — they can:

For some people, that stomach pain triggers a sudden drop in heart rate and blood pressure. Stand up too fast in the middle of the night, and the brain doesn’t get enough blood flow.

That’s how people pass out.

This matters even more as we age. In adults 65+, falls are one of the leading causes of injury-related deaths in the U.S.

The takeaway:
Instead of multi-ingredient nighttime products, talk with your pharmacist or doctor.
Target the actual symptom — not everything at once.

Over-the-counter does not mean risk-free.
If this helps prevent even one serious fall, it’s worth sharing.

There’s still a lot of confusion around magnesium—and most people are buying the wrong kind.
Magnesium citrate and magnesium oxide are commonly used for digestion, but they have poor absorption and don’t meaningfully replenish magnesium where your body actually needs it.

What makes the difference is absorbability. A high-quality magnesium should include:

• Magnesium malate for cellular energy and muscle function
• Magnesium glycinate to calm the nervous system
• Magnesium L-threonate, which can cross into the brain to support deeper, more restorative sleep
Another detail many people miss: magnesium is required to activate vitamin D. If magnesium is low, vitamin D can’t work effectively—no matter how much you take.

GLP-1s aren’t magic — they’re messengers.

Peptides are natural signaling molecules already in your body, constantly communicating with your cells. They help regulate insulin release, guide glucose into cells, support fat burning, trigger tissue repair, and even signal when you’re full and don’t need to eat more.

GLP-1 therapies work by mimicking these natural signals. While peptides have been studied for years, their safety and effectiveness as therapeutic tools have really come into focus over the last few years — which is why informed, personalized conversations matter.

At Butterfield’s Pharmacy, we focus on education and precision, because understanding how your body works is the foundation of better health — and no two bodies are the same.

Magnesium confusion is real—and most people are taking the wrong kind.

Not all magnesium works the same way. Some forms mainly help you “stay regular,” while others actually get into your muscles, nervous system, and even your brain.

Here’s the simple breakdown:
• Magnesium malate supports cellular energy and muscle function
• Magnesium glycinate helps calm the nervous system and promote relaxation
• Magnesium L-threonate crosses into the brain to quiet overthinking and support deeper sleep

One more key point most people miss: magnesium is required to activate vitamin D. Without enough magnesium, vitamin D can’t do its job—no matter how much you take. Shared by Amir Rahemi, Pharmacist, Entrepreneur & Health Advocate

GLP-1s aren’t magic — they’re messengers.

Peptides are natural signals in your body that help regulate blood sugar, appetite, fat burning, and more. GLP-1 medications work by mimicking these signals — helping your body respond the way it was designed to.

This field isn’t brand new, but the science behind safety and effectiveness is finally catching up — and that’s why conversations like this matter.

At Butterfield’s Pharmacy, we focus on understanding why something works, not just prescribing it.
