Moist—not wet—heals best.
Keeping a wound slightly moist (with the right dressing) helps new tissue grow, reduces pain, and lowers infection risk. Letting a wound “air out” can actually slow healing and increase scab formation.
✔️ Change dressings as directed
✔️ Watch for redness, warmth, odor, or increased drainage
✔️ When in doubt, get expert eyes on it early

Holiday injuries we see every year:

Those were once common—but today we know they can slow healing, damage new tissue, and cause unnecessary pain.

✨ A better approach: keep the wound moist, warm, and protected.
Moist wound healing has been proven to speed up cell growth, reduce infection risk, and improve comfort.

How to Keep a Wound Moist + Warm

💧 Moisture:

Use modern dressings like hydrogels, hydrocolloids, alginates, or foam dressings

Add a thin layer of petroleum-based ointment (if medically appropriate)

Seal the dressing edges so hydration stays in

🌡️ Warmth:

Keep the wound covered at all times

Avoid letting air hit the wound — exposure cools the tissue and slows healing

Change dressings quickly to maintain temperature

Keep the surrounding skin clean, dry, and gently moisturized
