What started as a simple idea turned into something really special.

We wrapped up our first pickleball program this week, and the growth, effort, and support from this group was incredible.

This is what Southern Maryland Adapted Sport & Recreation is all about — creating opportunities for everyone to be active, build confidence, and be part of a community.

The next step in building our community is the Co****le Classic. Pickleball has been a great success, and we’re excited to keep building with another chance for athletes of all ability levels to play, learn, and be involved. Check it out — with more to follow soon.

Something I’ve been thinking about with this program is what really makes it special.

No matter the ability level, everyone plays and everyone is involved. Everyone who shows up learns the game and has fun along the way.

That’s what Play for Life is all about — creating a place where people can learn, compete, and enjoy being active together.

We’re excited to bring that same energy to our Co****le Classic this spring.

Something special has been happening on Tuesday nights.

Athletes of all abilities showing up, learning new skills, supporting each other, and building confidence through sport.

Now we’re bringing that same energy to the Play for Life Co****le Classic.

This multi-week program is designed for teens and adults of all ability levels and focuses on skill development, community, and friendly competition — ending with a tournament showcase.

We’re intentionally keeping sessions small to ensure every athlete gets meaningful instruction and support.

Last night was a great pickleball session.

Our volunteers were fantastic, participants with and without disabilities were awesome, and the best part — everyone played, everyone learned, and everyone was valued.

That’s what inclusive recreation is supposed to look like.

A glimpse into our programming.

This is why we do it.

Today we watched a group go from never touching a paddle… to successfully playing a game — all in one session. The smiles, the cheering, the confidence — that moment when they realize “I can do this” is everything.

Inclusive recreation isn’t just about sport.
It’s about independence, friendships, and belonging.
