Friday, March 13.... 2020. Six years ago, on this day, my life (as well as everyone else's) changed forever. While preparing to start 2 new cohorts, I got the call that we were getting shut down to shelter in place because of the pandemic. It was shocking to have to, not only cancel 2 new cohorts, but tell my then current classes to not report for school. Everything was in free fall. I had only owned the school for 6 months and it was now in jeopardy. Fast forward to today; I think about where we were and all it's uncertainty and where we are now. If not for that shutdown, I would never have learned my true strength and fortitude. I would never have met Shari, who quickly became a friend and mentor. I would never have met Karyl, who also became a friend and confidant. I paid off my business loan and now have a beautiful space for the school to grow and thrive. I can't believe how much has changed since then. I am so proud of my staff and all the students who trained to give knowledgeable, compassionate touch during a time when we had to isolate. We learned a lot about what worked to keep the public safe, and what didn't work. It was always about public health and safety. After all was said and done, we persevered and grew into something so much stronger. I am deeply humbled by these lessons and am deeply grateful for those who chose to stick it out, for better or worse. And now here we are... smarter, stronger and perhaps more compassionate in our approach to quality care and connection. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PTSM is publishing it's Continuing Education Calendar for 2026!! The information will be on the website soon, but here are some highlights for this year:

May 2 and 3, 2026 - Mary Lakes will be teaching Introduction to Asian Theory and Practice. If you have ever taken a class with Mary, you know she is a fantastic instructor with tons of knowledge and information, with lots of compassion and support!

June 5, 6 and 7, 2026 – Manual Lymph Drainage with Kelly Jo Webster. Info and sign up at Kelly Jo Webster! This is a 3 day intensive with lots of information. Kelly Jo is taking care of sign ups on her website. Class is limited to 8. This is a wonderful opportunity to get an in-depth experience of the efficacy and power of MLD!

June 20 and 21, 2026 - Brian Utting is bringing his WONDERFUL
Introduction to Visceral and Abdominal Massage and Muscle-Specific Deep Tissue Techniques for the Iliopsoas, Diaphragm, and QL. Take one or both classes!!!

TODAY IS OUR 2 YEAR ANNIVERSARY of being in our "new" space!!! Even though Port Townsend School of Massage has been around for a LOT longer (30 years!), we've been in our new location for 2 of those 30. We've experienced so many amazing changes, trials, tribulations, successes, setbacks, new students, graduates and community involvement. We've made many improvements (and still need to make a few more) but we wouldn't have it any other way. As we prepare for a new class (starting March 9) we look forward to providing a quality massage education to those who have a heart for the work. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of the journey!!
