🌻HOT HATHA YOGA - 26 POSTURES🌻

🌻ABOUT THE CLASS

This is a classic 26/2 Hot Yoga class practiced for 90 minutes in a room heated to 103° F with 40% humidity. It consists of a set sequence of 26 asanas (postures) and 2 pranayama breathing exercises. Each asana is done twice.

The class is designed to warm and stretch your muscles, ligaments, and tendons in an order that would be beneficial to the body.

Some of the physical benefits of this sequence may include: detoxifying the body, increasing oxygen supply to the body and brain, increasing flexibility, muscle strength, stamina, and balance.

In addition to the physical benefits, this series cultivates PATIENCE, concentration, self-control, and determination.

🌻ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Gina Paznava Johnston has been practicing YOGA for 24 years and has been teaching it for 10 years. Patiently seeking wisdom.

🌻WHERE

Yoga Studio at Prosper Natural Health Welness Center located at 213 Decatur Street, Port Townsend WA 98368

🌻SCHEDULE

Classes are twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 5:30 pm.

🌻WHAT YOU WILL NEED

A Yoga Mat, a TOWEL, and your water bottle.

🌻PAYMENT

Fee is $17/class unless special arrangements are made with Gina.

Payment by Zelle, Venmo, cash, or check. No credit cards.

🌻A FEW TIPS

Arrive hydrated.

Keep drinking water during class but don’t chug.

Eat something light a couple of hours before class; you should not be hungry and avoid being full.

Use a mat towel. You may choose to dampen the towel before the practice begins, that helps it adhere to the mat.

Find your cool spot. If you feel overwhelmed by the heat and humidity in the studio, you can take a seat, lie down, or rest in child’s pose. It is often 15-20 degrees cooler on the floor than at standing height, so it’s a nice alternative to leaving the room which can shock the system with the cold air in the lobby.

Breathe through the nose. If you are a beginner, you might have trouble breathing well during a hot yoga class. To avoid feeling dizzy, you should make sure you are taking deep, slow breaths through the nose. Take a break if you feel you can’t breathe properly, but stay in the practice room.

Take breaks as needed. Yoga is about you and your practice, so never feel like you have to push yourself to keep up with the pace in the practice room if it doesn’t feel right. Especially in hot yoga, where your heart rate will be more elevated than the average class, feel free to take a child’s pose and take a mental and physical time out. Then you can hop back in with the rest of the class when you feel ready.

Don’t overdo it. Hot Yoga is so enjoyable because your body is already warm so more flexible and open. This can be dangerous and cause injuries if you are unaware of your limitations. Let’s keep our ego in check..

Patience and discipline are vital qualities in the ultimate successful accomplishments of any worthwhile endeavor. A few well-designed movements, properly performed in a balanced sequence, are worth hours of doing sloppy calisthenics or forced contortion.

The class will be sequenced taking into account the mind-body-spirit exercise system that includes:

1. Process-oriented routines that develop strength, flexibility, stamina, cardiovascular endurance, and skill through awareness.
2. Non-competitive sessions designed to enrich the student's feeling of well-being.
3. Focus on the mental component. Stimulation of the mind, not just the body, which allows for correct ex*****on and alignment. - creative movement patterns that offer variety and stimulate motor skills and brain development.
4. Focus on BREATHING.
