Before I found the words “Social Artist”, my inner critic had a much easier time bullying me. My easel sat in my closet for a looooong time, and whenever I saw it, I felt a small but sharp emotional jab, which put to words would go something like: “You’re not really an artist. You never get past buying stuff.” There are few voices meaner than our own inner critics.
But then I found my first intuitive painting group, and….my easel has been out and in use ever since. If you are a social artist, giving yourself time in expressive groups is a BIG game-changer. If any part of this story rings true with you, read on….
If you are a social artist, you are different than people who create best in solitude. You need supplies, space, and your people creating beside you. It feels good to make art side by side with other people. This is healthy and super normal! Many isolated social artists have unused supplies crying from the closet, but don't realize they also need a supportive teacher and a group of expressive people in the room creating with them. If this is you, the key to unlocking the magic and healing in art is finding your creative community. You can experience exactly this in the Social Artist Healing Cohort.
