DOES YOUR CHILD WALK ON THEIR TOES?
Toe walking up to age 3 occurs normally in children as they are learning to walk and improve their balance. Toe walking should never be the only way that a child walks. If it occurs all the time it can lead to muscle tightness, decreased range of motion, tripping/falling, and balance issues.
By the time a child is 3 years old they should be consistently walking with a heel to toe gait pattern.
As a physical therapist I am trained in assessing strength, range of motion, and balance that may be impacted by your child’s toe walking. It is important to start therapy early if there is problem.
