The Kalamazoo area continues to experience severe winter weather conditions. Temperatures are expected to remain in single digits this evening, gradually increasing after midnight and into the morning hours. High temperatures on Wednesday are forecasted to reach the mid to high 20s.
According to the National Weather Service, Kalamazoo is expected to receive 4 to 6 inches of snow accumulation between this evening and tomorrow morning. Snowfall rates are expected to reach up to one-half inch per hour between 4:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Fluctuating temperatures combined with snowfall and wind will significantly impact road conditions, particularly during the morning commute.
Motorists should anticipate poor visibility and slippery road surfaces. City of Kalamazoo Public Works road crews will be working throughout the night and into the morning to address conditions; however, roads may remain extremely hazardous.
If travel is necessary, please use extreme caution: reduce speeds, allow extra time for stopping, increase following distances, and carry emergency supplies in your vehicle.
Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring official Kalamazoo City Emergency Management, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, and City of Kalamazoo pages for additional information.
