Check out this video!!! It’s so interesting how we can easily trick the brain to feel pain. But did you also know that we can teach it to reduce pain!!

As an occupational therapist we use Mirror therapy (MT), which is where we use a mirror to create a reflective illusion of an affected limb in order to trick the brain into thinking movement has occurred without pain, or to create positive visual feedback of a limb movement. It involves placing the affected limb behind a mirror.

Don’t be afraid to contact us! There are so many ways we can attempt to help you gain functional improvements with pain and movement.

Michigan’s beautiful hot temperatures have finally arrived!! Yey for Summer!!

Just a friendly reminder not to leave your custom thermoplastic orthotic in a car on a hot day or outdoors in direct heat!! It can get hot enough where the thermoplastic material will loose it’s formed shape. You’ll end up with a blob of splinting material and a pretty embarrassing phone call! 😉But don’t worry we are here to help!!

Did you you know that crocs brand footwear are made out of thermoplastic material as well !!! I guess I won’t be leaving mine by the pool !! 🫨😃

Here is another custom Orthotic that we love fabricating for our patients. Hyperextension/ hyper mobility of the metacarpal joint of the thumb(2nd joint) can start to occur due to many different causes. As it worsens, it can lead to significant functional limitations. In these two cases, Osteoarthritis and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome were the diagnosis we were treating. We decided to try a custom, and cost effect version first for one patient before they opted to buy the silver ring brand. For the other patient she really loved her custom orthosis because she used them mainly while gaming and this stopped her thumbs from hyperextending why she reached for the space bar of her keyboard. These orthotic options can be a great option for the right candidate! These orthotics, combined with thumb stabilization neuroreeducation and strengthening can be very helpful in preventing worsening symptoms. Do you want to learn more? Reach out to us! We can help answer any questions or concerns you may have!

Bats belong to the taxonomic Order Chiroptera, which means "hand-wing". This is because a bat's wing is really its hand. The bones running through the wing are elongated fingers, and the wing membrane is like the skin that joins the base of our fingers. The muscles of the arm, structure of the wing membrane, and arrangement of the bones is what allows bats to fly erratically and and quickly maneuver to catch insects and avoid obstacles.
