Deep breathing has an incredible effect on the entire body. It can give energy or calm you down, it oxygenates all body tissues, decreases anxiety and helps you manage emotions. Remember 4-5-6: Take a deep inhale for 4 counts, hold it for 5 counts, then exhale for 6. Repeat 3-5 times in a row, several times throughout the day. A great time to do this is before each meal as it will help prepare your body to digest your food … then also before bed. Put it to the test! After a few of these “4-5-6’s”, you can really feel your physiology change. This is a serious problem in our culture… Make no mistake— just because you can function on less sleep, doesn’t mean you’re optimally healthy with less sleep. It will eventually catch up to you.
