Chronic stress locks us in STRESS Mode aka (flight or flight).
This is what we mean by STUCK STRESS.
It changes our physiology in countless ways.
A few examples include:
~Increased muscle tension, sensitivity and pain
~Compromised processing of food energy
--leaving more glucose circulating in our blood streams
--increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes
--making diabetes harder to manage
--increasing fat stores usually around our abdomen, further
increasing cardiovascular risk
~The brain when stuck in stress management mode prioritizes survival over memory, creativity, and problem-solving, leading to symptoms similar to ADHD.
~We also become more vulnerable to issues like anxiety and depression and long-term Alzheimers Disease.
~To maximize your body’s efficiency in this state your other organ systems get de-prioritized.
--your digestion slows down
--immune functioning shifts—either to under-performing making us more susceptible to illness or over-performing, potentially causing or exacerbating allergies, asthma or autoimmune diseases.
--growth, tissue repair, reproductive functioning, and regeneration all move to the back burner
Literally, your entire body and mind change in response to the perceived threat.
It's A LOT, I know.
Yet reversing it IS possible with intentional intervention.
