Rumors and news stories are claiming ICE will be pulling back from full blown operations, like the one recently. Please continue to practice safety and be aware of your surroundings. There is no confirmation at this time that any of this is true or happening. ICE will still be present in Maine and detaining folks.

Carry your legal documents. Stay home if needed. There are orgs delivering food and items. Reach out if you and your family is in need. We will coordinate accordingly! πŸ™

A Daily Call Log Report of Maine Immigrant Resource Hub & Referral Hotline for January 20, 2026.

This start of an ICE surge in Maine named by the agency "Operation Catch of the Day," was a 3000% increase in calls to the Hotline.

This is just a snip of the call data. There were 534 total calls that fit into these 5 categories. There were actually 870 calls that day. Of those, 710 selected a language option (not all calls do). Most all calls not included in the 534 referred to were considered "bad faith" calls by white supremacists who announced they would try to cause problems on the Hotline.

ICE agents have always been in Maine. We are now seeing an increase here in the State as of today. People have been detained at check ins, ICE is going to homes and schools. Please educate your children on what to do and who to call. Have emergency family plans in place. Remember you do not have to open the door without a warrant. We hope you all stay safe during these uncharted times! πŸ™

What's being done to prepare for increased ICE activity that's expected in Maine? Tuesday, live at 11 am & again at 8 pm. What questions do you have? Comment here!

Our partners at , , and the University of Maine School of Law have released a one-page handout so you can prepare for and respond to immigration enforcement activity in Maine. It's available at aclumaine.org/preparingforice; the link is also in our comments.

There are also multiple resources available addressing safety in schools, places of worship, health care facilities and other locations; what to do if a loved one has been detained, and advice for many other situations. Information is currently available in English, French, Spanish, Somali, Portuguese, Haitian Creole and Lingala.

It is a dangerous time for immigrants and their families, and for - as we see with the murder of Renee Good - citizens standing up to protect their communities. Know your rights. Stay informed. Be safe, and be loud.

Please talk to your children. Make sure you have a family safety plan, not to open the door to strangers (uniform or not) and what to do if home alone. πŸ™

Too many communities are feeling the impact of racial profiling, being kidnapped on the street and being separated from families!

LD 1971 will be enacted into law.
Our state has made it clear that local law enforcement will not make dangerous promises to ICE or participate in practices that harm immigrant communities.

This matters. It protects families, builds trust, and affirms that safety and dignity are not conditional.
Maine chose people over fear.
