Happy Solstice! Today marks the longest, darkest night of the year and the second day of Yule, celebrating the return of the sun. From this day onward, the sun will gradually gain light for the next six months, leading up to the summer solstice on June 21st.

Today is an excellent opportunity to craft a Yule log! Traditionally, people used a log throughout Yule to keep warm. The Yule log serves as a reminder to be grateful for the harvests in our lives and to celebrate the warmth and abundance we enjoy.

Winter is a season of stillness, a time when nature slows down. In Oregon, frosted car windows, icy weather, and frozen flowers reflect this quiet phase. Animals naturally retreat, resting and conserving energy, yet humans often feel pressured to keep pushing forward. Modern societal norms, shaped by capitalism, celebrate constant productivity, ignoring our bodies’ natural need to rest and recharge. The result is often burnout, illness, or emotional depletion during this time of year.
