Another feel-good discharge at Porthaven Post AcutePACS: Healthcare Elevated! Today we celebrated Peter Ferren, who recently moved to Oregon from California… and immediately let us know he’s a Dodgers fan. (We didn’t hold it against him. Rehabilitation is about healing, after all. 😂⚾️)

Peter came to us after a left parietal subdural hematoma, worked hard with our therapy team, and crushed his rehab like a champ.

Even our Director of Therapy showed up for his send-off — which means you know Peter was a favorite. 😉

Congrats, Peter! Enjoy being back home… and yes, we’ll allow your Dodgers loyalty just this once. 💙💪🏼✨

✨ Patient Success Story: Denise’s Journey ✨

Today, we celebrate an incredible milestone for Denise Shaw, a woman whose strength, patience, and determination carried her through a journey few could imagine.

After becoming critically ill with COVID-19 in 2023, Denise was hospitalized and required a tracheostomy to help her breathe. When she arrived at Porthaven, she faced a long road ahead—one filled with rehabilitation, respiratory support, and countless moments where she chose courage over fear.

For two years, Denise worked side-by-side with our respiratory therapy team, nurses, CNAs, and rehab specialists. Every day, she pushed forward, relearning independence and finding her voice again with the help of her Passy-Muir speaking valve.

Last week, Denise achieved something extraordinary, she was safely discharged home—confident, empowered, and managing her trach and speaking valve with strength.

Her smile said everything.

Denise’s journey is a powerful reminder that healing doesn’t always happen quickly, but it does happen when you have perseverance, support, and hope.

We are so proud of you, Denise. 💙

Honoring Our Heroes This Veterans Day 🇺🇸

Today, we pause to honor the brave men and women who have served our country with courage, dedication, and sacrifice. At Porthaven Post Acute PACS: Healthcare Elevated, we are proud to care for and support our veterans, individuals whose strength and service inspire us every day.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the VA Portland Health Care System for being such a wonderful referral partner and for the incredible care they provide to our nation’s heroes.

To our veterans, our patients, and our staff who have served—thank you for your commitment, your bravery, and your legacy of service. Your dedication reminds us every day what true honor looks like.

Today, the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office stopped by Porthaven Post Acute for a special Scam Awareness event with our patients and staff. 💬👮‍♀️

We’re incredibly grateful to Deputy John Plock and the Sheriff’s Communications Team for taking the time to educate our patients about how to recognize and avoid scams that often target seniors. Their compassion, professionalism, and commitment to community safety made a lasting impression.

Events like this remind us how important it is to stay informed and connected — and that our local law enforcement truly cares about protecting our most vulnerable community members.

Thank you again to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Department for your partnership, and for bringing both knowledge and kindness to our facility today. 💙

Happy Boss’s Day to our Administrator, Brandon Warr! 💼

Managing a skilled nursing facility isn’t for the faint of heart — you’re on call seven days a week, balancing patient care, staffing, families, and about a hundred moving parts (usually all at once). Yet somehow, you still manage to lead with calm, compassion, and that trademark “we’ve got this” attitude that keeps the rest of us grounded. 💙

You lead by example, not just with strategy and structure, but with genuine care for the people behind the work. You listen, you show up, and you remind us that what we do matters. That kind of leadership can’t be taught, it’s just who you are.

And even though you don’t drink coffee, we’re still convinced there’s some kind of secret energy source powering you through those 12-hour days and middle-of-the-night phone calls. 😅
